There is no universal “good” KDR. The clearest official benchmark comes from Activision’s Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Team Deathmatch guide, which treats a ratio near 1.0 as a solid result. Outside that game and mode, the number does not carry a fixed meaning, and the sources available here do not establish a cross-game cutoff. The sections below explain what the stat counts, where the 1.0 reference comes from, what a ratio leaves out, and how to compare two values fairly.
What KDR measures
KDR, also written K/D, usually means kills divided by deaths. A ratio of 1.0 means a player was eliminated as often as they eliminated opponents. A ratio of 2.0 means two eliminations for every death. Because the ratio is a simple quotient, it says nothing about how many matches produced it, how long those matches lasted, or what a player did between kills and deaths.
Games rarely label the stat the same way. Black Ops 6 Team Deathmatch calls its figure the “Elimination/Death or Elim/D Ratio” and defines it as eliminations earned divided by deaths. The guide also notes that damaging an opponent who is later eliminated may count toward the player’s elimination stat, while only the final blow counts toward team score. Two players with identical raw kill and death totals can therefore sit on different sides of a team-score comparison, and any benchmark you read should name the exact label it uses.
Where the 1.0 reference comes from
The Black Ops 6 Team Deathmatch guide gives two statements that are often quoted together:
#1 Best Overall
- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50 MM DRIVERS — Our cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows—producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides, with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240 g, the headset features thicker headband padding and memory foam ear cushions with leatherette to keep gaming in peak form during grueling tournaments and training sessions
- WORKS WITH WINDOWS SONIC — Make the most of the headset’s powerful drivers by pairing it with lifelike surround sound that places audio with pinpoint accuracy, heightening in-game awareness and immersion
- “Keeping this ratio above 1.0 — one elimination per one death — is a goal of nearly every Call of Duty player.”
- “If you’re close to a 1.0 Elim/D, you’re doing well.”
These lines describe a goal and a rough sense of a good result inside one mode of one game. They are not a population statistic. The guide does not publish a distribution, a percentile, or a rank-by-rank table, and it does not extend the figure to other Call of Duty modes or to other shooters. Treat 1.0 as a reference point for Team Deathmatch, not as a pass mark.
Why a ratio leaves things out
A K/D figure captures two outcomes and ignores most of what happens around them. Several official sources show how the measures used by developers try to close that gap.

Survival, self-kills, and match length
Activision’s 2024 analysis of matchmaking performance measurement considered several ways to rate player performance. It found that kill/death has useful cardinality and reflects both kills and survival, but that it does not account for self-kills. Other candidate metrics had their own weaknesses, including failing to distinguish players who played a full match from those who joined late. The analysis concluded that performance systems must adjust for factors that help or hurt team performance and must remain resilient to gaming. It also notes that match duration can affect how comparable kill and death values are.
Composite scores: VALORANT Performance Score
Riot’s VALORANT Performance Score is a broader measure. Riot lists the components as damage, context-adjusted kills and deaths, trades, assists, normalized utility use, spike plants, and spike defuses. Riot’s support page, dated September 25, 2026, says the score replaces ACS in several game modes and determines the match MVP, and then states: “Although performance score replaces ACS in several game modes and determines the MVP of the match, it does not influence any RR gain/loss values.” In other words, a performance indicator and a competitive rank adjustment are separate measures.

Combat score and rank updates
In Ask VALORANT #7 from 2020, Riot Senior Producer Ian Fielding explained the older combat score: “Regarding competitive, while your combat score indicates how well you performed in core combat during the game, it’s not 1:1 with the performance calculations we use for your rank updates.” That is a VALORANT-specific explanation from 2020. It does not describe how rank is calculated today, and it should not be read as a statement about other games.
How the measures compare
| Measure | Game and mode | What it counts | Published benchmark or guidance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elim/D ratio | Call of Duty Black Ops 6, Team Deathmatch (Activision guide) | Eliminations earned divided by deaths; damage that leads to a later elimination may count toward the elimination stat | Above 1.0 is a goal; close to 1.0 is doing well. Not stated for other modes or games. |
| Performance Score | VALORANT, listed modes (Riot support page, September 25, 2026) | Damage, context-adjusted kills and deaths, trades, assists, normalized utility, spike plants and defuses | Not stated as a numeric benchmark. Determines match MVP; does not affect RR gain or loss. |
| Combat score (ACS) | VALORANT, competitive (Riot, Ask VALORANT #7, 2020) | Performance in core combat during the game | Not stated as a benchmark. Not 1:1 with rank update calculations; replaced by Performance Score in several modes. |
How to compare two KDR values fairly
- Confirm the game and mode. A Team Deathmatch figure and a ranked objective-mode figure are not measuring the same thing, even if both are labeled K/D.
- Check the stat definition. Find out whether the game counts only final-blow kills, damage-based eliminations, or assisted eliminations, and whether self-kills are removed.
- Match the sample window. Compare values from similar match lengths and a similar number of games. Activision’s analysis notes that match duration affects comparability.
- Look beyond the ratio. Where a game publishes them, check objectives, trades, assists, utility use, plants, and defuses. In VALORANT, Performance Score adds these components.
- Keep match performance and rank separate. Riot states that Performance Score does not influence RR, so a strong match score does not by itself show rank movement.
- Account for role. Players who take entry fights or support teammates can contribute in ways a kill-to-death quotient does not capture. The official sources cited here do not provide a role-based ranking.
Where the evidence stops
The official sources cited here do not publish cross-game averages or percentile tables for K/D. Any universal “good” tier list, or a figure presented as the typical K/D across shooters, is an unsourced generalization. Community posts can show what players are achieving, but they are not representative samples.

- Be Heard Loud and Clear. The big 6 mm boom mic makes sure you’re heard by gaming partners and mutes when flipped up.
- Use One Headset For Most Game Platforms. Your headphones work with your PC or Mac via USB DAC or 3.5 mm cable, mobile devices with 3.5 mm cable or with gaming consoles including PlayStationⓇ 5 and PlayStationⓇ 4 (USB wireless stereo sound only), Nintendo Switch (wireless stereo sound when docked)
- Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
The most useful comparison is your own history. Track your ratio in one game and one mode over a consistent set of matches, and note whether your team won, whether you played objectives, and whether you joined late. A trend you can explain is more informative than a number set against a stranger’s average.
