What kind of game is Black Tides: Draga’s Wake?
The studio describes Draga’s Wake as a realistic third-person action horror game, while its Steam description frames it as an action horror-adventure with brawler combat. Those labels establish the intended perspective and broad genre, not the quality or final shape of its gameplay; the game is still in development.
Its pitch combines close-quarters action with survival and mystery aboard a single enormous vessel. The player’s stated goals are to find Draga’s scattered crew, escape the Ormora, and uncover what is awakening inside it. Steam’s official synopsis describes the premise as being stranded on a nightmare steamship in an alternate 1900s.

Draga Bolivar is described by the developer as a hardened sailor and first mate with a murky past. After a heist goes wrong, he is left aboard the Ormora, separated from his crew. Finding them and getting off the ship are his immediate objectives.

The Ormora is a colossal steamship in an alternate 1900s; creative director Greg J. Strangis identifies it more specifically as an icebound whaling ship. A fanatical doomsday cult and an ancient cosmic force have taken hold there, twisting the crew, cultists, and ship into monstrous forms. The same corruption is taking root in Draga, making his escape a struggle against a threat that is also affecting him.
The maritime setting, cult, cosmic danger, and bodily transformation give the premise a maritime-gothic and body-horror character. “Lovecraftian” can work as broad genre shorthand for cosmic horror, but the official material does not establish that the game is an adaptation or licensed property.

What does the official trailer reveal?
Strange Creature Factory’s Steam community post calls its October 2 announcement the “Official First Trailer Release!” The developer’s accompanying description confirms the central setup: Draga is trapped aboard the Ormora after a heist, a cult and cosmic force are changing the ship and its inhabitants, and Draga is at risk of corruption as well. The studio also characterizes the game as realistic third-person action horror.
That is what can be stated confidently from the official trailer announcement and its written summary. Specific shots, enemy designs, combat moves, or dialogue should not be treated as confirmed here; the announcement’s premise is not a substitute for verifying individual details in the video.

Strangis has named The Thing and Leviathan as body-horror touchstones. He says the studio sees creature and character design as a storytelling medium, rather than spectacle alone. That describes the team’s creative intent; it does not establish how the finished game will deliver on that aim.

In the same developer update, Strangis describes the setting this way: “Set aboard the Ormora, an icebound whaling ship overrun by a doomsday cult, Draga’s Wake is brutal, atmospheric, and strange.” These are the studio’s stated influences and ambitions, not independent assessments of the finished game.

Is Black Tides: Draga’s Wake released, and what has been announced?
No release date or confirmed publisher is established in the official material reviewed. Strange Creature Factory says the game is in active development and that it was preparing an updated demo for publisher discussions while seeking a publishing deal. That indicates a work-in-progress project and a search for support, not a signed publishing agreement.
The studio reported 10,000 wishlists in its October 2, 2026 Steam community post accompanying the first official trailer announcement. That is a studio-reported figure, not an independently verified count.
