Call of Duty Recon Squad is a player-feedback research community operated by Fuel Cycle—not a gameplay mode. Activision’s February 18, 2025 announcement said players may be invited while playing Call of Duty, but it did not provide an open signup route or guarantee that any player will receive an invitation.
What is the Call of Duty Recon Squad?
Activision described Recon Squad as a research community for gathering player feedback. Its announced scope covered the seasons of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone. The announcement does not describe Recon Squad as a game mode or an in-game team players can join to play matches.
Activision said the community is operated by Fuel Cycle, a research-community provider. The program announcement was included in Call of Duty’s February 18, 2025 Season 02 Reloaded content announcement.
How can players get invited?
Activision’s stated route was an invitation that players may receive while playing Call of Duty: “While playing Call of Duty, you may be invited to join the Call of Duty Recon Squad operated by Fuel Cycle.” The announcement did not explain how invitations are selected, specify which game or mode surfaces them, or promise that every player will see one.

The announcement listed surveys and online community discussion boards as ways to provide feedback. Activision also said invited participants might be offered focus groups, so focus groups were a possibility rather than a guaranteed activity for every member.
