In Minecraft Java Edition, F3 + T reloads resource packs and their resources. It is a quick way to refresh a pack after changing its files; it is not a supported shortcut for Bedrock Edition.

What F3 + T does

The shortcut tells the Java Edition client to reload resource-pack assets, such as textures and sounds. Mojang’s bug tracker lists F3 + T as the resource-pack reload shortcut, and the Minecraft Wiki’s debug-hotkey reference describes it as reloading changes to packs in the resource-pack folder: Mojang bug tracker and Minecraft Wiki debug shortcuts.

It is useful after editing or installing a resource pack when you want to check the change without restarting the game. It does not install or enable a pack for you: resource packs are digital content that players download and enable in the game’s settings.

How to use F3 + T

  1. Install or edit the resource pack and make sure it is enabled in Java Edition’s resource-pack settings.
  2. Enter a world. A Mojang issue documents that the shortcut did not work from the main menus in the affected versions listed through 1.21.4; entering a world was the workaround in that report: Mojang issue tracker.
  3. Hold F3, then press T.
  4. Wait for the reload to finish before checking the change.

Java Edition and Bedrock Edition

The cited Minecraft Wiki debug-hotkey reference identifies F3 + T as exclusive to Java Edition. Do not expect it to work as a supported resource-reload shortcut in Bedrock Edition. The available version information does not establish a complete compatibility matrix for every later Java release or device.

If the shortcut does not work

  • Try it after entering a world. The menu limitation is documented for the versions listed through 1.21.4, not established here as a rule for every later release.
  • Check how your keyboard handles function keys. Some computers require an Fn modifier for F-keys, but that depends on the device; there is no single fix established for all keyboards.
  • Consider your keyboard layout. A Mojang issue reports inconsistent behavior for some debug combinations on certain layouts and includes F3 + T among the affected commands.
  • Use the resource-pack settings if you need another refresh attempt. You can toggle a pack off and back on in the game’s settings, though the available documentation does not establish that this works in every menu or release.

F3 + T versus reloading a data pack

F3 + T is primarily documented as a client-side resource-pack reload. A Minecraft Wiki data-pack tutorial also mentions it as an option for refreshing a data pack in an existing world, alongside the /reload command: Minecraft Wiki data-pack tutorial. In multiplayer, that tutorial directs players to reload through the server console or have a level 3 operator run the command. This is a separate server-side context, not a reason to treat F3 + T and /reload as interchangeable in every situation.
