What is the No Man’s Sky Worlds Part I update?
Hello Games announced Worlds Part I on July 17, 2024, as update 5.0 for No Man’s Sky. The studio described its goal as making the universe “richer, wilder, more varied and immersive.” The announcement and update details are available from Hello Games and the official update page.
What changed in Worlds Part I?
More varied planets and biomes
The update introduced new biomes and refreshed existing ones, with a broader emphasis on variety in the plants and animals players can encounter. The result Hello Games described was a more diverse universe to explore; the Xbox Wire overview also highlights the changes to biomes and discoverable life.
Water and clouds
Worlds Part I substantially improved the appearance of water and clouds. These visual changes sit alongside the planet and biome work as the update’s central environmental focus.

Gameplay and quality-of-life changes
The update also made practical changes to everyday play. Examples listed by Hello Games include smoother docking tractor beams at space stations and freighters, the ability to interrupt a reload to switch weapon modes, quick-filling refiners, instant core-technology repairs from the Quick Menu, and a longer-range Analysis Visor Target Sweep. These are examples, not a complete list of update features.
Does Worlds Part I change existing planets?
Worlds Part I was presented as a refresh to the game’s universe, including refreshed existing biomes as well as new ones. Hello Games’ public descriptions support saying that existing environments were part of the update, but do not specify that every planet or biome changed in the same way.

Which platforms have the Worlds Part I update?
Hello Games’ release log lists Worlds Part I for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass. The update is part of No Man’s Sky; it is not a separate retail product. Current store listings, editions, and prices can vary by platform and region. “Part I” signaled that Hello Games expected the universe-focused work to continue. In the announcement, Sean Murray said, “The update is called Worlds Part I, because I guess obviously… more will follow.” The update also launched with an expedition inspired by Starship Troopers, taking players on a tour of some of the new planets and encouraging community progress as they fought bugs together. The official release log later recorded Worlds Part II as update 5.50.
