PUBG Ally is an AI duo teammate for PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, developed by KRAFTON with NVIDIA. It is designed to take voice or text instructions, interpret what is happening in a match, and act by looting, navigating, or fighting. NVIDIA announced a two-week beta on June 17, 2026; the announcement and KRAFTON’s later technical paper do not establish whether Ally is available after that beta.
What is PUBG Ally?
Ally is a context-aware companion intended to play alongside one human in PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS’ duo mode. NVIDIA says it can respond to PUBG terminology, map locations, and item attributes, while adjusting its playstyle to player commands and changing battlefield situations. Those are the developers’ stated capabilities, not an independent assessment of how well Ally performs in every match.
The beta described in KRAFTON’s September 2026 paper paired one player with Ally on Sanhok in duo battle-royale matches. That scope describes the research deployment and should not be taken as proof of broad or continuing availability.
How does the PUBG AI teammate work?
KRAFTON describes a pipeline with two inputs—what the player says and observations of the live game—and two outputs: Ally’s spoken responses and its in-game actions. Match information is made available to the system as textual observations through a game-side integration.

Conversation and decision-making
For voice interaction, player speech is transcribed using NVIDIA automatic speech recognition. An on-device small language model (SLM) uses that input together with game-state observations to decide what Ally should say and which higher-level actions to request. KRAFTON research lead Hyunseung Kim summarized the SLM’s role as “The SLM is the decision core.” KRAFTON’s custom text-to-speech system then generates Ally’s spoken response.
Fast actions and a changing design
The language model does not directly handle every rapid movement or tactical response. A behavior tree executes requested actions that need quick reactions, separating that action layer from the language model’s broader interpretation and planning. NVIDIA describes the design as combining a behavior tree for immediate tactical actions with ACE models and tools for cognitive abilities.

KRAFTON’s AI team says the design evolved from a workflow-based system toward an autonomous-agent approach, with proactivity, memory, and strategic suggestions treated as separate capabilities. This is the developer’s account of the architecture’s evolution; it does not by itself establish how consistently those capabilities appear in live play.
Can PUBG Ally understand voice commands?
Yes. The announced design supports both voice and text input. For voice, the system transcribes the player’s speech, combines it with live match observations, and uses the SLM to determine a response or high-level action. NVIDIA and KRAFTON describe Ally as understanding game terminology and contextual information such as locations and items, but the available figures do not measure command accuracy across all players, accents, or situations.

What did the beta show?
KRAFTON’s 2026 paper reports data collected during the live-service beta, including nearly 39,000 gameplay sessions used to gather player interactions and feedback for iterative training. Its survey reached players in 141 countries. These figures describe the beta data and survey reach, not the number of unique players or a representative poll of the entire PUBG community.
Among survey respondents whose Ally play was confirmed in match records, positive recommendations exceeded negative recommendations by 25.1 percentage points. The survey was self-selected, so this is a result for participating respondents, not a measure of overall player sentiment. The paper also says players rated Ally more favorably as a conversational experience than as a combat teammate; conversational quality should not be treated as evidence of combat effectiveness.

What GPU does PUBG Ally need?
No definitive minimum GPU specification is established in the cited announcement or paper. KRAFTON reports evaluation on RTX 4060-class PCs and an 8GB consumer-GPU target, but these are study and deployment details—not a published universal minimum requirement for players.
The paper estimates approximately 1.6–2.1 GB of VRAM for the quantized, locale-specific language model and its working cache. That figure covers the model and cache, not PUBG itself or the entire AI pipeline, so it is not a total system-memory requirement.
Does Ally run locally, and how fast is it?
KRAFTON describes the speech-recognition and language-model components as running on-device. In its reported comparison, a single spoken exchange took approximately 1.6 seconds on-device versus 3.4 seconds in the cloud configuration. These are measurements from the paper’s evaluated configurations, not a guarantee for every PC, network, language, or exchange.
Is PUBG Ally available now?
NVIDIA announced a two-week PUBG Ally beta on June 17, 2026. KRAFTON’s September 24, 2026 paper discusses that beta, but neither source confirms whether Ally remained available after the two-week period or whether it launched more broadly. Check current PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS announcements for a definitive status rather than assuming the beta is still open.
