Streamlabs Talk Studio is a browser-based studio for live streaming and recording with guests. You can add cameras, screen shares, media, and other sources to a scene, then send the broadcast to configured destinations without installing desktop software. It is aimed at interviews, co-hosted shows, presentations, and similar productions—not at keeping a prerecorded YouTube video looping 24/7.

What is Streamlabs Talk Studio?

Streamlabs describes Talk Studio as a web-based live-streaming and recording studio for inviting guests, sharing a screen, and broadcasting or recording. Its getting-started guide says it works in a browser and does not require installation. Streamlabs lists Google Chrome and Safari as browser requirements; it recommends a stable internet connection, preferably Ethernet. The setup figures below come from Streamlabs’ 2023 guide, while plan details and prices reflect the plans page as accessed October 3, 2026.

Talk Studio is suited to a host who wants to assemble a live scene and bring in remote participants. It is distinct from a 24/7 prerecorded-video service: its documented workflow centers on a host, sources, guests, and a live broadcast.

What features does Talk Studio include?

Scenes, sources, and guests

In the editor, you can select cameras, guests, screen shares, or media from the left panel and choose Show on stream. Use Hide on stream to remove a source from the live scene. Adding sources gives you different layout options.

  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

To bring someone in, select Add Guest and copy or email the invitation link. Guests wait in the Queue until the host moves them to Show on stream. The getting-started guide says a guest’s microphone will not be audible on the broadcast before that step.

Production controls

Streamlabs’ guide also documents chat, scheduling, branding and styles, banners, tickers, a teleprompter, virtual backgrounds, blur, intro and outro video, settings, and integrated apps. If you do not have a webcam, the setup guide describes using a stream avatar instead.

Destinations

You add destinations in Profile Picture → Account Settings → Destinations → Add Destination, then follow the selected service’s prompts. A destination may have its own requirements, so confirm those before going live.

How to use Streamlabs Talk Studio

  1. Open Talk Studio in a supported browser. Streamlabs names Google Chrome and Safari in its getting-started guide. Use a stable connection; the guide prefers Ethernet.
  2. Set up your Streamlabs ID and devices. Allow the browser to access your camera and microphone, then select the audio and video inputs you want. Use an avatar if you do not plan to use a webcam.
  3. Add a destination. Go to Profile Picture → Account Settings → Destinations → Add Destination and complete that platform’s setup prompts.
  4. Build the scene. Add camera, guest, screen-share, or media sources from the left panel. Choose Show on stream for sources you want viewers to see and Hide on stream for sources you want off screen.
  5. Invite guests if needed. Select Add Guest, send the link, and bring each person from the Queue onto the stream when ready. Check the preview and audio before starting.
  6. Choose recording options before the show. Under Settings → Output, enable Cloud Recording, Local Recording, or both as appropriate. Streamlabs recommends enabling only the options you will use, to avoid unnecessary computer load.
  7. Start the broadcast. Select Go Live, choose destinations, enter details such as the title and description, and start the stream.
  8. Stop it deliberately. Select End Stream when finished. Streamlabs warns that not doing so can leave the stream online.

Connection and resolution requirements

Streamlabs’ 2023 getting-started guide lists 5 Mbps upload as the minimum connection and gives these resolution-specific figures:

1080p 10 Mbps 20 Mbps

These are figures in Streamlabs’ 2023 guide, not a guarantee that a particular connection will deliver stable results. Other traffic on the network and the chosen destination can affect a broadcast. If the stream struggles, reduce the target resolution or address the connection before adding more sources.

Talk Studio Standard vs Pro

The following plan details and listed prices are from Streamlabs’ plans page as accessed October 3, 2026. Subscription limits and commercial terms can change; check the current Talk Studio plans page before subscribing.

Plan detail Standard Pro
Monthly price $9 per month $17 per month
Annual billing $90 per year, shown as $7.50 per month billed annually $145 per year, shown as $12 per month billed annually

The figures displayed for annual billing do not multiply exactly in Pro: the page lists $12 per month billed annually and $145 per year. Treat the annual total and monthly equivalent as separate displayed figures rather than trying to reconcile them. The plans page also says a seven-day free trial is available, Pro is included with Streamlabs Ultra, and paid features remain accessible until the end of the paid billing period after cancellation. Guest-count discrepancy

Streamlabs’ current plans page lists Pro at up to 11 guests. Its getting-started guide, however, says Pro supports up to 24 guests with 15 on screen, while listing Standard at up to five. Because the official pages conflict, use the current plan-page figure when evaluating the offer, and confirm the limit with Streamlabs if your production depends on a higher capacity.

Recording: cloud, local, and retention

Cloud Recording produces a complete recording and an audio-only downloadable file. Local Recording captures separate audio and video tracks for each participant. You can enable either option under Settings → Output; local recording is not available on mobile devices.

Streamlabs’ local-recording guide says the computer needs at least 5 GB of free space. Streamlabs also says recordings are retained for a limited time and older files are automatically deleted. The local-recording guide lists the latest 15 recordings retained for three days on Free, 15 days on Standard, and 30 days on Pro. Download anything you need to keep before its retention period expires; Streamlabs recommends an external hard drive for safekeeping.

Is Talk Studio the right tool for a 24/7 YouTube stream?

Talk Studio’s documented use is a host-led live production and recording session. It is for YouTube streams, not camera-based broadcasts.

Common Talk Studio problems and fixes

  • Your camera or microphone is missing: Check that the browser has permission to use the device, then choose the intended input in Talk Studio’s audio/video settings.
  • A guest joins but viewers cannot hear them: Check whether the guest is still in the Queue. Move them to Show on stream when they are ready to appear and be heard.
  • A destination is not ready: Revisit Profile Picture → Account Settings → Destinations → Add Destination and complete the destination’s prompts. Some platforms impose additional requirements.
  • The broadcast is unstable at your chosen resolution: Compare your upload speed with Streamlabs’ 2023 guide figures above. Try a lower target resolution or a more stable connection.
  • The recording stopped while the stream continued: The recording may have reached its plan’s per-session limit; Streamlabs says the live broadcast can continue after recording stops.
  • A recording has disappeared: Check the plan’s retention window. Streamlabs says older recordings are automatically deleted, so download files you need before the applicable period ends.
  • The stream remains online after the show: Use End Stream in Talk Studio rather than relying on closing a browser window.

Should you use Talk Studio?

Choose Talk Studio if you want a browser-based live studio for guests, screen sharing, scenes, and recording, and its plan limits match your production. Compare output resolution, destination count, guest capacity, recording length, and retention before choosing a plan. If you need to keep prerecorded video live on YouTube around the clock rather than host a live session, use a tool built for that workflow instead.
