What Is the Best Armor for Archers in Grounded?

Moth Armor is a strong all-around late-game choice for ranged builds in the original Grounded. Wasp, Antlion and the Sleek Marksman's Cap suit more specific priorities.

For a general late-game ranged build in the original Grounded, Moth Armor is a strong all-around choice: its effects support ranged pressure, stamina recovery and kiting. Wasp Armor better suits bow users who alternate uncharged and charged shots, while Antlion Armor is worth considering when faster crossbow reloads matter. These are recommendations based on documented effects, not a tested universal damage ranking.

What is the best armor for archers in Grounded?

There is no single best set for every archer. The right choice depends on whether you use a bow or crossbow, how you pace your shots, which bonuses suit the fight, and what you have unlocked. This guide covers the original Grounded, not Grounded 2.

Moth Armor is a practical default for sustained ranged attacks and movement. Choose Wasp Armor for its charged-shot rhythm or its situational benefit against flying creatures. Choose Antlion Armor if reload cadence is a priority, especially with a crossbow. A Sleek Marksman’s Cap can also provide a ranged-damage effect as a single head piece in a mixed set.

How the armor options compare

Option Best suited to Relevant documented effect Tradeoff
Moth Armor General ranged play, sustained attacks and kiting Ranged attacks can inflict bleed; the Sleek effect can refund stamina; the set bonus can increase movement speed after ranged hits. These effects are chance-based. The documented effects do not establish Moth as the highest-damage choice for every build.
Wasp Armor Bow users mixing charged and uncharged shots; fights against flying creatures Uncharged shots can trigger a buff that reduces charged bow attack time; its set bonus benefits ranged attacks against flying creatures. The flying-creature benefit is matchup-specific. The effects here refer to the original Grounded.
Antlion Armor Ranged users who value reload cadence, including crossbow users Quickdraw speeds bow and crossbow reloads after ranged attacks. It is medium armor, with a different defensive and stamina profile from light armor. Its Sleek effect concerns thirst drain, not direct ranged damage.
Sleek Marksman’s Cap A mixed set looking for a ranged-damage head piece In the original Grounded, its Sleek effect increases bow and crossbow damage by 20%. As one armor piece, it does not grant a dedicated set’s full-set effects.

Choose armor to match your weapon and rhythm

For sustained ranged pressure and kiting: Moth

Moth Armor combines several effects that can support an archer who keeps attacking while repositioning: ranged attacks may inflict bleed, the Sleek effect may return stamina, and ranged hits can trigger a movement-speed increase. Because these are chance-based effects, they are not guaranteed on each attack. The set is a strong general option, rather than a proven universal damage winner.

  • Optimized for Xbox Series X|S: Games optimized for Xbox Series X|S will showcase unparalleled load times, heightened visuals, and frame rates up to 120 FPS.

For charged bow shots and flying targets: Wasp

Wasp Armor suits a bow rotation in which uncharged shots help set up faster charged attacks. Its full-set bonus is particularly relevant when fighting flying creatures. If neither that shot pattern nor the matchup fits your build, those specialized effects may be less useful than Moth’s general ranged and mobility effects.

For faster reloads: Antlion

Antlion Armor’s Quickdraw bonus speeds reloads for bows and crossbows after ranged attacks, making it a candidate when reload cadence is central to your playstyle. Do not choose it expecting its Sleek effect to increase ranged damage: that effect is related to thirst drain. Its medium-armor profile also differs from the light armor options.

For a ranged-damage head slot: Sleek Marksman’s Cap

The Sleek Marksman’s Cap is a separate head piece, not a full armor set. Its documented effect in the original Grounded is a 20% increase to bow and crossbow damage, so it can be considered alongside other armor pieces when you want that head-slot bonus rather than a dedicated set’s full-set effects.

When these options become available

Moth, Wasp and Antlion are Tier 3 sets, so treat them as later-game choices rather than early-game defaults. The Marksman’s Cap can be considered separately for its Sleek ranged-damage effect.

Bard’s Bow is also a late-game option because it requires Wasp Queen parts. A build recommendation centered on that bow therefore depends on access to those parts; it is not an assumption that the weapon is available early.

How to make the choice

  • Start with your weapon: consider Antlion when reload speed is a priority; consider Wasp if you use a charged-and-uncharged bow rotation.
  • Match bonuses to the fight: Wasp’s flying-creature benefit is situational, while Moth offers effects tied to ranged attacks and movement.
  • Decide whether you want a set or a piece: the Sleek Marksman’s Cap provides a documented ranged-damage option in the head slot, but does not provide a full set bonus by itself.
  • Account for progression: the three full sets discussed here are Tier 3, and Bard’s Bow requires Wasp Queen parts.

The listed effects distinguish the options, but they do not amount to a controlled DPS comparison. Exact mechanics and balance can depend on the current game version; the item details cited here are from a community-maintained wiki, while Obsidian’s update pages provide official context for armor bonuses and ranged equipment.
