Roblox recommends checking how it looks at smaller display sizes, including 150 × 150 pixels, so important details remain clear. That smaller size is a legibility check, not the upload target.
Recommended Roblox icon resolution
Roblox’s official experience-icon guidance says an icon should be square and at least 512 × 512 pixels. Use that as the minimum canvas size; a 16:9 image such as 1920 × 1080 is for thumbnails, not icons.
Icons may be scaled down in some parts of Roblox, so preview your design at 150 × 150 pixels as well. If the subject, lettering, or other important details become hard to recognize, simplify the artwork or make those elements larger.
Icon versus thumbnail: use the right asset
An experience icon identifies your experience. Thumbnails are additional images that show what it offers and can appear on the Home page and experience detail page. Roblox’s thumbnail guidance recommends a 16:9 aspect ratio and ideally 1920 × 1080 pixels.

How to upload an experience icon
- Open Creator Dashboard and select the experience.
- Go to Configure → Places and select the start place.
- Choose Icon, upload the square image, and review the preview.
- Save your changes. The image must pass moderation before it appears to other users.
Design checks before uploading
- Keep the composition square and at least 512 × 512 pixels.
- Preview it at 150 × 150 pixels; enlarge or remove details that do not read clearly at that size.
- Choose imagery that reflects the experience’s theme, tone, or genre so players can understand what to expect.
- Prepare thumbnails separately at 16:9, ideally 1920 × 1080 pixels. Keep important content away from the bottom, where metadata may cover it.
