There is no vanilla Minecraft mob called the Blue Demon. The name most often points to one of three community creations: a character from a 2017 Minecraft video, a cave-dwelling mod, or a player skin. Which one you mean depends on where you saw it, so the sections below separate them by origin, platform, and date.
Which “blue demon” you are most likely asking about
The phrase is used for at least four different things. Only the first is tied to the exact wording of a famous-style question, and even that link is to a video title rather than to the game itself.

| Name you may have seen | What it is | Where it lives | Version or platform | Date on the source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Oni | A character named in a YouTube video title, “[Minecraft] What is this blue demon!? [Blue Oni]” | YouTube video, channel 日常組 | Not stated | Published September 7, 2017 |
| The Blue Demon dweller | A creature that stalks caves and deep mineshafts | CurseForge mod project by Mr_Dwellerdude | Minecraft 1.19.2 with Forge (Java Edition mod) | Listing updated June 22, 2026 |
| Blue Demon | A player-made skin listed on the community site MinecraftSkins | MinecraftSkins, uploaded by briangultom | Not stated | Posted August 10, 2013 |
| Blue Demons | A skin pack for Bedrock Edition | Minecraft Marketplace (Ready, Set, Block! pack) | Bedrock Edition | First published July 12, 2024, according to a third-party catalog mirror |
The Blue Oni video
The most direct answer to the title question is the Blue Oni. An oni is a demon figure from Japanese folklore, and the 2017 video names its subject that way in its title. The video’s page could not be reviewed in detail, so nothing here describes how the character looks, what it does, or where it appears in the video. What can be confirmed is the title and the publication date.
Nothing confirms that the Blue Oni is part of vanilla Minecraft. Treat it as a character from one video, not a game feature. If you are trying to find it in your own world, it will not appear in the normal mob list.

The Blue Demon dweller mod
A separate, similarly named project on CurseForge, titled The Blue Demon dweller, is a community mod. Its listing specifies Minecraft 1.19.2 with Forge. The creator describes it as a cave and mineshaft stalker.
The project description says: “The Blue Demon is another brand new horrifying Dweller that stalks it’s prey, do not go into the dark for too long if you have this mod installed!” The listing credits Omega V2 Steam and Mr_Dwellerdude. It does not name a separate person responsible for that sentence, so it should be attributed to the project description alone.

What is not established
No official Mojang or Minecraft statement about a Blue Demon or Blue Oni was found. If a Minecraft patch notes page or the official wiki lists a mob by this name, that would change the answer, but no such entry was identified.
How to tell which one you saw
- If the name came from a YouTube title with “[Blue Oni]” in it, it is the video character.
- If you found it on CurseForge with a cave or mineshaft description, it is the Forge mod.
- If it was a character look you could put on a player model, it is a skin.
- If you are on Bedrock and it came from the in-game store, it is probably the Blue Demons skin pack.
If none of these fit, check the page or the video where you first saw the name, since that page usually states the platform and version.
