Ubisoft has not disclosed a specific development or marketing budget for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in the official materials reviewed here. Any exact dollar amount without a traceable source should be treated as an estimate, not a confirmed figure.
How much did Assassin’s Creed Valhalla cost to make?
The public official sources cited below do not state how much Ubisoft spent to develop or market Valhalla. They also do not establish a reliable total from which that spending can be calculated. Ubisoft’s statements about the game’s sales and profitability describe commercial performance, not its budget.
What is known about the game’s development scale?
Development timeline
In a 2020 Ubisoft Montréal interview, producer Julien Laferrière said he had been working on the game for three years. That describes his reported time on the project; it is not a published total for every stage of development or a measure of cost. Ubisoft Montréal’s interview with Julien Laferrière.
Studio counts vary by source and date
Laferrière’s 2020 interview said 14 Ubisoft studios around the world were working on the project, including Montreal as lead studio. A Ubisoft News retrospective published July 23, 2021, described 17 studios collaborating on the game. These are separately reported figures from different publications; they should not be combined into a single count or used to infer a budget. What Ubisoft said about sales and profit
Launch performance
In its November 2020 launch announcement, Ubisoft said Valhalla sold through more units in its first week than any earlier Assassin’s Creed game had sold in the equivalent period. The announcement gave neither an absolute unit total nor a production budget. Ubisoft’s launch announcement.
Profitability is not the same as budget
Ubisoft’s first-half FY2021–22 report said that, in less than 12 months, the game had become the second-largest profit-generating title in the company’s history. That is Ubisoft’s description of its profitability ranking; it does not reveal development spending, marketing spending, or the split between them. Ubisoft first-half FY2021–22 report.

How to assess budget estimates
If you encounter a specific figure attributed to Valhalla, check whether the original source can be traced and what the figure includes. Development-only estimates are not directly comparable to totals that also include marketing, and amounts in different currencies or converted on different dates may not be comparable either. Unless an estimate is tied to an attributable source and clearly labeled as an estimate, it should not be repeated as an official budget.
The known studio counts, launch performance statement, and profitability ranking establish that the project was large and commercially successful by Ubisoft’s measures. None provides a defensible way to reverse-engineer its cost.
