On PC, “regular” GTA 5 usually means GTAV Legacy, while GTAV Enhanced is Rockstar’s newer edition. Enhanced adds ray-tracing and upscaling features and uses SSD storage for faster loading on supported devices, but it has higher system requirements. Eligible players can migrate progress from Legacy to Enhanced, though GTA Online progress stops syncing between the two versions afterward.
This comparison is for PC. Rockstar’s current-generation console editions use a different version and migration context.

What changes between Enhanced and Legacy on PC?
Rockstar’s Enhanced feature listing describes upgraded graphics options and faster loading on supported devices. Legacy is the lower-feature PC edition in this comparison.
| Area | GTAV Enhanced | GTAV Legacy |
|---|---|---|
| Graphics | Rockstar lists ray-traced ambient occlusion and global illumination, shadows and reflections, plus AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS support. A later update added high-resolution ray-traced reflections and a second ray bounce for ray-traced global illumination. | Does not include the Enhanced feature set described here. |
| Loading | Rockstar says Enhanced uses SSD storage and DirectStorage on supported devices for faster loading. | No equivalent faster-loading claim is established by the cited Rockstar materials. |
| Hardware demand | Higher minimum requirements, including an SSD, 8GB RAM and a newer minimum GPU. | Lower minimum requirements in Rockstar’s published comparison. |
| Progress transfer | Eligible players can migrate a Story Mode save and GTA Online profile from Legacy under separate processes. | Legacy progress remains available in Legacy; Online progress does not sync with Enhanced after migration. |
Graphics features depend on compatible hardware and selected settings. Rockstar’s feature descriptions are not a promise of a particular frame rate or a universal visual improvement on every PC. Its loading statement is also a product claim, not an independently measured benchmark. The later graphics details appear in Rockstar’s update notes.

Can your PC run GTA 5 Enhanced?
Compare your machine with Rockstar’s published requirements rather than assuming that a PC capable of running Legacy will also run Enhanced. The figures below are Rockstar Games Customer Support’s requirements, as listed on its page updated December 10, 2025; they are specifications, not performance benchmarks. Rockstar may revise them as the game is updated. See the current PC system requirements before installing.
| Requirement | Enhanced minimum | Legacy minimum |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10, build 1909 or later | Windows 10 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD FX-9590 | Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or AMD Phenom 9850 |
| Memory | 8GB RAM | 4GB RAM |
| Graphics card | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1630 (4GB VRAM) or AMD Radeon RX 6400 (4GB VRAM) | Not stated in the cited minimum-requirements summary. |
| Storage | 105GB on an SSD | Not stated in the cited minimum-requirements summary. |
Enhanced recommended graphics cards
For Enhanced, Rockstar lists an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (8GB VRAM) or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT as recommended GPUs. Check the full current requirements page for the remaining recommended specifications; meeting a minimum is not the same as meeting the recommended configuration.

If your PC has no SSD, storage is one requirement to address, but buying a drive by itself does not establish that the computer meets the processor, memory, graphics or other requirements. Before choosing a drive, verify that your computer supports its interface and physical dimensions.
Can you move your progress from Legacy to Enhanced?
Yes, if you are eligible, but Story Mode saves and GTA Online profiles use separate migration processes. Rockstar’s rules are time-sensitive, so review its current migration instructions before starting.

GTA Online profile
- Migration is from PC Legacy to PC Enhanced. Rockstar does not support migration from PC to console or from console to PC.
- Some profiles may be ineligible, including because of bans, suspensions or insufficient or illegitimate progress.
- After migration, the Legacy profile is retained, but progress in the Legacy and Enhanced PC profiles no longer sync. Playing one version will not update the other profile.
Story Mode save
- Upload the save you choose from Legacy, then download it in Enhanced.
- Only one save can be uploaded per account at a time. An uploaded save remains available for 90 days.
- After a successful download, Rockstar says another Story Mode migration is not available on that account. Choose the save carefully.
Is Enhanced the better version for you?
- Choose Enhanced if your PC meets its requirements and you want its additional graphics features, supported upscaling options and SSD-based loading.
- Stay with Legacy if your PC does not meet Enhanced’s requirements or you prefer not to upgrade hardware. Check Rockstar’s current requirements before deciding.
- Plan a migration if you want to carry eligible progress over. Decide which Story Mode save to transfer, and remember that GTA Online progress will separate between editions after migration.
GTA+ is supported on Enhanced PC through supported storefront and platform-management routes, but Rockstar says membership may not be available in every region. Check local availability rather than assuming it is offered for your account.
