The Duskbloods is an upcoming FromSoftware online multiplayer action game scheduled for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. It combines player-versus-player fights with encounters against computer-controlled enemies, with online matches for up to eight players. Its vampire-like characters and Gothic and Victorian-inspired imagery suggest a blood-soaked, steampunk-flavored world—but “steampunk vampire adventure” is a description, not the game’s confirmed genre, and this is not presented as a conventional single-player adventure.
Is The Duskbloods single-player or multiplayer?
FromSoftware describes The Duskbloods as an online PvPvE multiplayer action game: players compete against one another while also encountering enemies controlled by the game. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki characterized it as an online multiplayer-focused game in an interview published by Nintendo on April 4, 2025; Nintendo says the English article was translated from Japanese. The official material does not establish a story-first single-player campaign.

Matches support up to eight online players. Nintendo’s U.S. listing gives single-system play as one player, so that listing’s one-player figure should not be confused with the online match limit.
How do matches work?
Miyazaki’s description points to match-based play built around changing objectives, rather than a single rule for every round. Most matches are generally last-player-standing, but some can use a different win condition, such as cooperating to defeat a powerful boss.

Victory Points, objectives, and events
Victory Points determine the match outcome. Fighting other players can earn points, but Miyazaki also described more opportunistic ways to pursue them. Personal objectives provide separate rewards, and match events may introduce special enemies or objectives and change rewards. These are features described by the director in 2025, not independently verified hands-on findings about the final game.
Returning to the hub
Before a match, players use a hub to choose and customize a character. Miyazaki said players return there after a match and receive a reward whether they win or lose. That structure makes the hub the link between character preparation and repeated online rounds.
Who are the Bloodsworn?
The playable characters are called Bloodsworn. Miyazaki described them as people who gain superhuman abilities through special blood. He said vampire stories inspired them, but they are not meant to be traditional horrifying monsters: the team reinterpreted what he called the romantic aspects of vampire and blood concepts.
The Bloodsworn compete for “First Blood” as humanity approaches an event called the “Twilight of Humanity.” Blood also carries symbolic weight in Miyazaki’s explanation, connected with inherited history, power, fate, and the possibility of going beyond human limits. That outlines the premise, but does not amount to a full plot synopsis.

Character choice and customization
In the April 2025 interview, Miyazaki said players could choose from over a dozen characters, each with an individual identity and appearance, and customize them to a degree. That is the director’s description at that time; the final roster and customization details may differ.
Is The Duskbloods a steampunk or vampire-horror game?
Vampire inspiration is confirmed, but a formal “steampunk” genre label is not. Miyazaki described a setting without one fixed era or location, mentioning Gothic- or Victorian-style maps and locations from the closing years of the early modern period. A train shown in the trailer is one example of the imagery, not proof that the entire game belongs to a specific historical period or genre.
“Steampunk vampire adventure” can work as a quick description of the mood suggested by those details. For accuracy, the official classification is multiplayer action, and FromSoftware describes the game as online PvPvE.
Which platforms will The Duskbloods support?
The announced platform is Nintendo Switch 2. FromSoftware announced a worldwide release scheduled for 2026, and Nintendo describes the game as exclusive to Switch 2. Nintendo’s U.S. listing supports TV, tabletop, and handheld play. The official sources reviewed do not give an exact release day or month.

Online requirements
Nintendo’s U.S. listing says online features require internet access, a Nintendo Account, and a separately sold Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo also notes that the service is not available in every country. These are requirements for online features; Nintendo lists single-system play as one player.

The confirmed release information is a 2026 schedule, not a specific launch date. FromSoftware’s announcement cautions that information may change. Nintendo’s U.S. product listing labels the edition Digital but does not provide a price in the material reviewed. An official physical edition and a complete edition lineup have not been established there, so neither should be assumed.
The official game site posted a network-test gameplay guide on August 20, 2026, and said the first session would begin August 21 at 19:00. A survey announcement dated August 21 gave September 4, 2026 as the response deadline. Those dates have passed; they are not upcoming sign-up opportunities.
What to consider if you’re deciding whether to follow it
The announced design gives prospective players a few practical questions to weigh: whether they enjoy PvP pressure alongside shared PvE objectives, whether repeated match-based play and character customization appeal to them, and whether they have access to Switch 2 and are willing to meet Nintendo’s online-service requirements. The official announcements and interview describe the concept, but do not establish final balance, performance, or independent hands-on quality.
