For a glyph-focused route, use an enchanting table’s Extraction panel on glyphs you obtain. ESO Support confirms that extraction grants Inspiration, but its published guidance does not compare rates, so there is no verified universal “fastest” glyph, quality, or method.
How Enchanting levels up
ESO calls crafting progression points Inspiration, the crafting equivalent of experience. The official guidance says characters earn it when they craft or deconstruct items, and that accumulating Inspiration advances a crafting profession. Every character starts with Enchanting at level 1, according to ESO Support.
Enchanting becomes available by visiting the appropriate crafting station. The official skill-line unlocking guide includes Enchanting among the crafting skill lines unlocked this way.
A practical glyph-extraction route
- Visit an enchanting table and open its Extraction panel.
- Select glyphs you have obtained and extract them. ESO Support says extraction yields components and Inspiration; it also destroys the glyph.
- Use glyphs found during ordinary play or otherwise available to you. This lets you turn acquired glyphs into crafting progress rather than assuming you must make every glyph yourself.
The official glyph guide confirms the extraction process and the Inspiration it grants. It does not publish an amount per glyph or establish that a particular level, quality, or source gives the best return.

Crafting glyphs versus extracting them
Crafting glyphs also awards Inspiration, but the official sources do not compare the rate from crafting with the rate from extraction. Crafting requires one Potency, one Essence, and one Aspect runestone. Those categories determine a glyph’s level, effect, and quality, respectively, according to ESO Support.
That makes crafting useful for spending runes and learning combinations, but not a proven leveling shortcut over extraction. If you are choosing between the two, consider what materials and glyphs you already have; there is no current official XP comparison here to show which route is faster or cheaper.

What older player advice suggests
Older ESO forum discussions offer practical ideas, but they are anecdotal rather than a current, measured ranking. A discussion from August 2015 suggests extracting glyphs crafted by another player and learning runes as you find them. A February–March 2016 discussion recommends extracting dropped glyphs and crafting at the highest level available. These suggestions may be worth trying when convenient, but they do not establish a universal fastest method or an Inspiration formula.

What the available evidence cannot tell you
ESO’s official pages confirm that crafting and deconstructing award Inspiration, and specifically that glyph extraction grants it. They do not provide a current head-to-head test or numeric leveling rates. The sources therefore do not establish whether crafted, dropped, or traded glyphs are best, or whether glyph level or quality changes the fastest route. Avoid treating old forum tips as a guaranteed XP strategy.
