No method in Elder Scrolls Online is proven to be the fastest for everyone. Community guides rank active material farming highest for gold per hour, but no controlled comparison across platforms, servers, or characters backs that ranking. The fastest route for you depends on how much active time you have, whether you can reach a guild trader, and how much market risk you will accept.
How the main methods compare

Active material farming: the strongest candidate for gold per hour
A January 27, 2026 community guide by JFFK estimates around 200,000 gold per hour for its farming method. It recommends an overland route and highlights Craglorn for Nirncrux drops. The same author warns that price differences between servers change what you earn. In the author’s words: “Please also keep in mind that prices are different on each server, so the amount you earn can differ a lot.”
Treat the 200,000 figure as one author’s estimate for one method at one point in time. It has not been independently verified, and it may not match your server or your current market prices.

Daily crafting writs: the repeatable baseline
ESO’s official beginner guide confirms that players can complete daily crafting writs for rewards. A February 2026 ESO Forums post by player BioBitter100 reported 5,000 gold per character for handing in seven writs, along with chances at saleable gold materials, master writs, and survey reports. That amount belongs to the player who reported it. It is not an official or guaranteed payout, so expect your own results to differ.
Writs are the least variable option in this list because they do not depend on what buyers pay on a given day. Their value is steady rather than high, and they reward consistency more than speed.

Trader guild sales and market flipping
Selling through a trader guild
A community beginner guide explains that selling to other players requires a trader guild, or a guild that has a trader. Before you rely on any price data, check the platform and server you play on. Items commonly listed include crafting materials, motifs, master writs, recipes, and rare drops. Prices and demand fluctuate, so a listing that sold well last month may not sell at the same price now.
Market flipping
Flipping and sniping are named in current community guides as high-upside approaches. They require price knowledge, time to spot underpriced listings, and enough starting gold to buy inventory. No verified return figure is published for this method, and no reliable way to guarantee profit exists. Resale risk is the main reason it suits experienced traders better than newer players.
Antiquities and Golden Pursuits as supplements
Antiquities
Bethesda Support describes Antiquities as scrying and excavating treasures. It states that valuables from the system’s rewards can be sold to vendors, with a combined vendor value of over 300,000 gold. That is an aggregate figure for the whole reward system. It is not a gold-per-hour rate and does not show that Antiquities outperforms farming or writs.
Golden Pursuits
Bethesda Support notes that Golden Pursuits can include crafting activities. They are time-limited, and the menu disappears when none are active. Check ESO News for current campaigns before planning around them. They can add rewards to a routine, but the sources do not establish them as a fast gold source.

Figures to treat with caution
- About 200,000 gold per hour: one community author’s estimate for one farming method, dated January 27, 2026.
- 5,000 gold for seven writs: one player’s report from a February 2026 forum post, not an official rate.
- Over 300,000 gold total: the combined vendor value of Antiquities valuables, not a rate.
- 100,000 to 2 million or more gold per hour: a promotional range that appears in the title of Alcast’s January 2026 forum guide. The guide does not test it in the way a controlled study would, so do not treat it as an earning range you can expect.
No source compares these methods under controlled conditions across platforms and servers. The official sources confirm that writs, trading, Antiquities, and Golden Pursuits exist, but none ranks them by earnings speed.
Choosing a route by player type
- Casual player without a trader guild: start with daily crafting writs, the most repeatable baseline. Look for a guild that has a trader; without one, the sources do not establish a higher-yield sale route.
- Player with low skill or limited experience: the sources do not rank farming or writs by skill level. Begin with writs, which the official beginner guide covers, and add farming once you learn the overland routes and how prices move on your server.
- Active farmer who wants the highest reported gold per hour: farming is the strongest candidate on the evidence. Check current prices for your server before choosing what to collect and sell.
- Experienced trader with capital and market knowledge: flipping may return more than other methods, but it carries price and resale risk and needs capital to start.
Verify before you act
- Check the prices on your own platform and server before you commit to any route.
- Check ESO News for active Golden Pursuits campaigns.
- Compare any gold figure against its date and source, since the figures here date from early 2026 and market conditions change.
Earnings from every method above depend on the market at the time you play, so re-check the numbers before you base a plan on them.
