Set in a traditional Japanese inn haunted by yokai, the project was announced in April 2025. Roblox later described it as survival horror; contemporary announcement coverage also reported roguelite elements and randomly generated rooms.
What is The Inn?
The Inn is a horror experience for Roblox built around a traditional Japanese ryokan—a type of inn—and the yokai spirits that haunt it. Roblox’s May 2025 creator spotlight describes it as survival horror. Reports published around the April 2025 announcement characterized it as roguelite horror and described rooms as randomly generated; those details come from the announcement coverage, rather than the Roblox interview.

The project is a separate Roblox game, not a Chainsaw Man adaptation or licensed crossover. Nakayama’s connection is his work directing the anime and his creative role on The Inn.

Ryu Nakayama worked as a director on the Chainsaw Man anime and joined Studio Mayflower as Chief Creative Officer. Roblox identifies him as The Inn’s creative director. Studio Mayflower and its team are collaborators on the game, rather than another name for Nakayama himself.

AUTOMATON WEST reported on April 11, 2025, on Nakayama’s April 9 announcement on X. Its English rendering of his post says he was directing the game with Mayflower and that it was his first time working on a game. Roblox’s later interview also describes it as the team’s first game and says work began at the start of 2025, with team members who had no game-production experience.
What inspired its Japanese horror setting?
In Roblox’s creator spotlight, Nakayama said he designed the ryokan setting and character designs with yokai in mind. AUTOMATON WEST’s translation of his announcement also conveyed his intention to give the game a stronger Japanese feel. That emphasis makes the inn and its supernatural inhabitants central to the concept, rather than treating Japanese folklore as a decorative detail.

Nakayama also named Doors as a design precedent, telling Roblox that learning from creators who came before was important. The available sources establish that inspiration, but do not show that The Inn shares Doors’ specific mechanics or is a sequel or related experience.
What is known about its gameplay—and what remains unconfirmed?
The clearest official description is survival horror in a yokai-haunted inn. April 2025 coverage adds a roguelite label and randomized rooms, suggesting that runs may vary, but the cited reports do not provide enough detail to explain the complete gameplay loop, progression, or how a run ends.
