THE ONE PIECE is a new anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga, starting from Chapter 1 and the beginning of the East Blue saga. Netflix has announced a February 2027 premiere: the first season is planned as seven episodes released together, with roughly 300 minutes of story covering about the first 50 manga chapters, through Luffy’s encounter with Sanji at Baratie. It is distinct from both the existing Toei-produced TV anime and Netflix’s live-action ONE PIECE series. The source material is the manga, not the live-action show.
Is THE ONE PIECE a remake or reboot?
“Reboot” is a convenient shorthand, but Netflix’s official description is a new anime adaptation. The practical distinction is that this version starts the story again at manga Chapter 1 rather than continuing the existing TV anime’s storyline. It is not a continuation or a new season of the Toei series.

The original Toei Animation TV anime has been broadcast since 1999, according to Netflix’s December 17, 2023 announcement. The two adaptations share the manga as their source but are separate productions.
When does THE ONE PIECE premiere, and how will it release?
Netflix has announced a February 2027 premiere, exclusively on Netflix. The announced first season consists of seven episodes released together. No specific February calendar day is stated in the official sources cited here, so a more exact date should not be assumed. Release schedules can change.

The production committee for THE ONE PIECE includes Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, and Toei Animation. The committee’s involvement does not make this the same series as the Toei-produced TV anime. Netflix reported the committee’s stated aim as a “fresh yet familiar experience” that reimagines Luffy’s adventures through East Blue. That wording appeared in Netflix’s joint-committee announcement.

Who is making THE ONE PIECE?
WIT STUDIO handles animation production. Netflix lists Masashi Koizuka as director, Hideaki Abe as assistant director, Taku Kishimoto for series composition, and Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda for character design and chief animation direction. THE ONE PIECE is a new way to enter the story through its original manga opening. The franchise’s scale is separate from the reboot’s audience or performance: Netflix reported in 2026 that the manga had sold more than 600 million copies globally. Netflix’s franchise announcement also describes a series of more than 100 volumes.
