The official material establishes this premise clearly. What it does not establish is the full history of the company, the origins of the characters, or the reason the staff disappeared.
The player’s tool: the GrabPack
The GrabPack is the device that makes the factory’s puzzles work. PlayStation’s description of Chapter 1 defines it as a wearable backpack with two hands attached by steel wires. According to that description, the hands can move heavy objects, reach items out of the player’s normal range, and conduct electricity. Most of the game’s puzzles are built around those three abilities.

Mob Entertainment announced Escape From Playtime on August 25, 2026. The game is a co-op survival-horror title set in the same factory and stars the Smiling Critters. Mob’s announcement says that runs reveal a deeper connection to the main story, but it leaves the motives of the Voice unclear.
Game Director Brandon James described the setting in the announcement: “We’ve always loved the idea that Playtime Co. is this huge, awful place with more hiding inside of it than anyone has seen.” That line supports the idea that the factory still holds material the story has not yet shown, but it is a design statement rather than a plot reveal.
