Wildgate is a multiplayer shooter from Moonshot Games, the Dreamhaven studio, that pairs first-person combat with tactical spaceship battles. Crews search the Reach for upgrades and an Artifact, then try to escape through the Wildgate with it—or win by destroying every rival ship. It launched on July 22, 2025, but major ongoing content development has since paused.
What is Wildgate?
Wildgate is a PvP/PvE multiplayer game built around coordinated crews, ship combat and first-person action both aboard and beyond a crew’s ship. It is not a conventional single-player campaign. Moonshot Games describes it as a crew-based shooter, while Dreamhaven’s launch announcement introduces its mix of ship-to-ship and on-foot combat in the Reach.
The match loop combines operating a ship, exploring, collecting resources and upgrades, and confronting rival crews. Players can use probes to locate points of interest, and rivals may board a ship. Finding the Artifact raises the stakes: its location can become known to opponents, turning the attempt to carry it to the Wildgate into a contested escape. Moonshot Games’ official game page and Xbox Wire’s gameplay overview describe the core premise and crew activities.
How do you win a match?
There are two main victory routes: escape through the Wildgate carrying the Artifact, or eliminate every rival ship. Dreamhaven’s May 2026 gameplay FAQ adds a match-end condition: if a game reaches 60 minutes, the Reach wins automatically. That makes survival and time part of the match’s outcome, not just the contest between crews.

How many players can play Wildgate?
Moonshot’s prelaunch overview for Xbox Wire described matches with five crews of up to four players, or up to 20 players total. Treat that as the published match structure rather than a guarantee that every current mode or matchmaking option uses it; the overview predates the game’s launch. Xbox Wire provides that figure.
What platforms is Wildgate on?
Wildgate launched on Steam, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on July 22, 2025, according to Dreamhaven’s launch announcement. In its June 2026 update, the developer said new players could still buy it through Steam, the Epic Games Store, Xbox and PlayStation. The official Steam listing currently includes a free trial; trial terms and purchase options may differ by storefront, so check the relevant listing before deciding whether you can play for free or need to buy the game.
Does Wildgate have cross-play?
Yes. Dreamhaven’s May 2026 FAQ says cross-play and cross-platform progression are supported when accounts are linked to a Dreamhaven account. The FAQ also says in-game purchases are supported with linked accounts. For account-linking details and current requirements, consult the Wildgate Gameplay Overview FAQ.
The official storefront lists full controller support and Steam Deck as playable. Those are listed capabilities, not a claim that any specific controller model has been verified. See the official Wildgate store for current platform and storefront information.

Is Wildgate still getting updates?
Not on a regular major-content schedule, based on the developer’s June 25, 2026 announcement. Game director Dustin Browder said, “Despite all our attempts to bring new and more players into the game, Wildgate hasn’t found a large enough audience to sustain ongoing development.” The announcement identified Patch 1.5.4 as the last major patch for a while. The game was to remain available, with occasional maintenance such as bug fixes, balance updates and small events rather than a continuing major-update roadmap. Read the Patch 1.5.4 announcement for the developer’s statement.
