You can learn Apprentice Riding—the first ground-mount riding skill—in The Burning Crusade Classic at level 30. Faster ground riding is a separate skill at level 60, while ordinary characters must reach level 70 to learn flying. Druids are the exception: they can learn Flight Form at level 68 after training Journeyman Riding.
Riding levels and mount speeds in TBC Classic
“Getting riding” usually means learning the first skill that lets you use a ground mount. The higher tiers unlock faster movement, and flying has its own level requirement.
| What you want to do | Level and riding tier | Movement speed |
|---|---|---|
| Ride your first ground mount | Level 30 — Apprentice Riding | 60% ground speed |
| Use a faster ground mount | Level 60 — Journeyman Riding | 100% ground speed |
| Use a standard flying mount | Level 70 — Expert Riding | 60% flying speed; ordinary flying mounts are also listed at 60% on land |
| Use an epic flying mount | Level 70 — Artisan Riding | 280% flying speed and 100% ground speed |
| Fly as a Druid in Flight Form | Level 68, after Journeyman Riding | 60% flying speed; the guide says Expert Riding is included |
The riding skill levels and speeds are listed in Wowhead’s TBC Classic riding table. The Druid requirement and Flight Form details are covered in Wowhead’s TBC Classic flying guide, updated February 3, 2026.
When can you fly?
Ordinary characters: level 70
Characters other than Druids need to reach level 70 to train Expert Riding and use standard flying mounts. The same level also unlocks Artisan Riding, the faster epic-flying tier. A Blizzard forum discussion quotes the Battle.net shop’s level-70 requirement for TBC flying, but the forum post is secondary evidence for that shop description: Blizzard forum discussion.

In an official forum post dated January 19, 2026, Blizzard community manager Kaivax said that after a hotfix, boosted characters should automatically receive Apprentice Riding when they complete the first boost quest, “A New Beginning.” The notice establishes the Apprentice Riding grant only; it does not say that boosted characters also receive Journeyman Riding or flying skills.
