Pokémon Platinum Version is an expanded, reworked Sinnoh adventure—not a wholly separate sequel. Its biggest changes are a Giratina-centered story built around the Distortion World, additional characters and scenes, altered details in familiar places, and a five-facility Battle Frontier for postgame battling.
How does Platinum change the main story?
Diamond and Pearl put Dialga and Palkia in the spotlight; Platinum shifts the central legendary focus to Giratina. The Pokémon Company describes Giratina as being “at the center of the story” in Pokémon Platinum Version (The Pokémon Company).

That shift brings the Distortion World into the adventure. Nintendo Japan describes it as a world beyond the ordinary rules of time and space. It is a defining story setting and gameplay addition within Platinum’s Sinnoh journey, not a separate game or an entirely new region (Nintendo Japan).
What new characters and story material does it add?
Platinum adds story scenes involving Team Galactic and introduces a new member of the group. It also brings in an International Police character who identifies himself as “Handsome” in the English rendering of the Japanese page. These additions expand the existing conflict rather than replacing Sinnoh’s overall adventure with a different one (Nintendo Japan).

- This renewed game will not come with the original case or manual; cartridge only. It has been cleaned, tested, and is in nice condition.
What changes in familiar Sinnoh locations?
Platinum revises details of places that players may recognize from Diamond and Pearl, and the protagonists wear different outfits. Nintendo Japan documents these changes alongside the added story material, but they do not mean that every map or story beat has been rebuilt (Nintendo Japan).
What does Platinum add after the main story?
Its major postgame battle destination is the Battle Frontier, located in the Fight Area. Nintendo Japan says it becomes available after the player enters the Hall of Fame. The Frontier contains five facilities, including the Battle Tower; each uses its own rules, and victories earn Battle Points that can be exchanged for prizes (Nintendo UK; Nintendo Japan).

This is a meaningful addition if you want structured battles after completing the story. The five facilities offer different rule sets rather than simply extending the main plot.
Is Platinum a sequel, and what system is it for?
Platinum is a Nintendo DS game that extends the Diamond and Pearl adventure with new story and gameplay elements. Nintendo’s manual presents it as an extension of those games, while Nintendo UK describes it as following their success (Nintendo manual; Nintendo UK).

- This renewed game will not come with the original case or manual; cartridge only. It has been cleaned, tested, and is in nice condition.
When was Pokémon Platinum released, and do its online features still work?
Release dates varied by region. Nintendo UK lists 22 May 2009 as the UK release date; that is not a worldwide date or the original Japanese release date (Nintendo UK).
The Pokémon Company’s official page records that certain Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection functions ended on 20 May 2014 (The Pokémon Company). That notice does not identify every Platinum feature affected, so it should not be taken as a complete feature-by-feature status report or as confirmation that other services work today. Check the status of a specific feature before relying on online play or trading.
