No current NBA 2K game is free to own on PC. As of October 8, 2026, the PC release 2K identifies is NBA 2K27 on Steam, and it is a paid purchase. The only way to play an NBA 2K game on Windows without buying it outright is an Xbox Game Pass or Xbox Ultimate Pass subscription, which has included NBA 2K26 since April 3, 2026. That is subscription access, not a permanent free copy, and the catalog it depends on can change.
Which NBA 2K game is the current PC release
NBA 2K27 is the current edition on PC. According to 2K’s September 2026 announcement, it is available worldwide through Steam, and its Standard Edition is listed at $69.99. Regional pricing can differ and prices can change, so the Steam store page is the place to confirm what you will pay where you live.

NBA 2K26 through Game Pass on Windows PC
NBA 2K26 Standard Edition became available on Windows PC through Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Ultimate Pass beginning April 3, 2026, according to NBA 2K Support. Access lasts only while you hold an active membership and the title stays in the catalog. Microsoft’s catalogs rotate, so check the live Game Pass listing before you plan to play.
Two details matter if you choose this route:
- Buying is a separate option. NBA 2K26 can also be purchased through the Microsoft Store or the Xbox app on Windows. That purchase is not the same thing as Game Pass access, and it is the only route that gives you a copy you keep without a subscription.
- Platforms do not share progress. Xbox and Windows PC are treated as separate instances, and progress and VC wallets do not transfer between them. Windows PC and Steam players can cross-play in NBA 2K26, according to the same support page.
NBA 2K27 through Xbox Cloud Gaming
Microsoft’s Xbox listing for NBA 2K27 says cloud play is possible on specified Game Pass tiers, but only after you have purchased the game. Cloud access therefore does not give you a free Windows PC copy of NBA 2K27. It is an extra way to play a game you already own, not a way to get it for nothing.

The February 2026 Free Play Days event has ended
NBA 2K26 was part of Xbox Free Play Days from February 5 to 8, 2026, for eligible Game Pass members. That event is over. Articles still describing NBA 2K26 as free for that weekend are describing a closed promotion, not current access.
