What the June 2024 Direct revealed

Boards, characters and minigames
The game keeps the familiar party-board format: players roll dice, move around a board, collect coins and Stars, and compete in minigames. Nintendo listed seven boards total, including two returning favorites: Western Land and Mario’s Rainbow Castle.

Local play, online play and controls
Nintendo lists single-system play for one to four players. Online play supports one to 20 players depending on the mode; the 20-player maximum applies to Koopathlon, not every online activity. Online features require internet access, a Nintendo Account and a Nintendo Switch Online membership, sold separately. Nintendo notes that membership availability varies by country and that additional accessories may be needed for multiplayer.
Rank #3
Joy-Con is required for motion-control minigames. Nintendo says those minigames are not compatible with Nintendo Switch Lite, and motion controls are not used in Koopathlon or Bowser Kaboom Squad. In certain modes, players can turn Motion Minigames off. These qualifications do not mean every mode requires motion controls or extra controllers. Nintendo’s product page.
