The film is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on April 30, 2027. The accessible coverage of Pritchard’s interview does not establish what she said about GTA 6, third-party game goals, or the details of her first year in the role.
What Pritchard said about the Zelda movie
Nintendo Life’s September 18, 2026 report on Pritchard’s interview with Variety quotes her describing the movie partnership as a way to widen access to Nintendo’s experiences. She said: “We’re working with Sony Pictures. We are going to have a movie come out in the end of April…those partnerships and touchpoints with companies like Sony and Sony Pictures around how we can bring those experiences more broadly to not only our current players and fans but to new ones, I think that’s one of the most exciting things for us over the next few years”. That is Pritchard’s stated hope for the partnership, not evidence that the film has already attracted new audiences. The report reproduces her remarks, but the original Variety interview text is not established here; the quotation should be understood as reported by Nintendo Life.

The date is a planned future release, not a guarantee that the schedule cannot change. Nintendo first announced the project in 2023, describing direct production involvement as a way for people around the world to experience Nintendo entertainment beyond dedicated game systems. The 2026 announcement confirms the project’s production and distribution arrangement.
Why Nintendo sees films as part of its games strategy
The movie fits a broader strategy Nintendo has described publicly: use media and other channels to introduce its characters and stories to people who may not already play Nintendo games. In a shareholder Q&A reported by Nintendo Life, Shigeru Miyamoto said dedicated platforms alone limit how many people the company can reach, while smartphones, movie theaters, YouTube, and other channels can provide additional points of contact. He said those introductions may lead to future game sales; that is a strategic possibility, not a guaranteed result for every project. (Nintendo Life’s report on Nintendo’s Q&A, July 3, 2026)

- Factory sealed DVD
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa made a related point in the company’s February 2026 results briefing: films and video can cross regions and age groups, and collaborations help increase consumer touchpoints with Nintendo IP. In that briefing, Nintendo said it wanted to focus first on its two announced films and could not then provide more detail about other movie development. The company also described Switch 2 sales as stable and favorable at the beginning of 2026; that is a time-bound statement, not a current sales estimate. (Nintendo, February 4, 2026 results briefing)
What the available coverage does not establish about GTA 6, third-party games, or Pritchard’s first year
The headline’s references to GTA 6, third-party game goals, and Pritchard’s first year are not substantiated by the accessible interview coverage and official Nintendo materials cited here. They do not establish a position from Pritchard on GTA 6, a target for third-party releases, or a detailed assessment of her first year. Those points should not be presented as her views without the original interview or another direct, reliable source.

- The animated series The Legend Of Zelda debuted in 1989 on Fridays during The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! week-daily broadcast. It originally aired in conjunction with the first Legend of Zelda game release and breathes life into the characters of Link, Princess Zelda and the evil wizard Ganon - fleshing out their personalities with a bit of romance and a dash of humor. What can be said from the confirmed remarks is narrower: Pritchard expressed enthusiasm for using partnerships and the Zelda movie to bring Nintendo experiences to existing fans and new audiences. Nintendo’s wider statements explain why the company considers films and video useful alongside its dedicated game platforms, but they do not answer what Pritchard said about specific third-party titles or goals.
