Which platforms can play GTA 6?
Rockstar’s August 27, 2026 announcement names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for the November 19 release. Its support page, last updated August 18, also lists those platforms. The announcement says its extended look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5; that production detail does not establish how the game will compare across consoles.

PlayStation 5
PS5 is an announced platform. Buy the PS5 version if that is the console you own or the one you decide best fits your library and social circle.

Xbox Series X|S
Both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are included in Rockstar’s Xbox Series X|S listing. If you own one of those consoles, choose the Xbox version.
PC
Rockstar’s current platform information does not include PC, and the company has not announced PC availability. There is no confirmed PC release date to plan around.

How to choose where to play
If you already own a supported console, matching your purchase to it is the simplest choice. If you are considering buying a console specifically for GTA 6, Rockstar’s published information does not establish which version will run better. Compare the factors you can assess for yourself instead:

- Existing library: The system that already has the games you play may be the more useful long-term purchase.
- Friends and online play: Check which console your friends use and whether your preferred way to play together is supported.
- Controller and interface: Choose the system whose controls and menus you prefer.
These are practical buying criteria, not claims about GTA 6’s performance. Rockstar’s announcement that footage was captured on PS5 is not a performance comparison.

Is the physical version a disc?
No. Rockstar says the physical version contains a download code and that no disc will be included in the box. The code enables a digital download, so this package is not disc ownership and does not meet a preference for a playable or resellable disc. Rockstar says physical Standard Edition availability from retailers is expected to start November 12, 2026; confirm current availability with the retailer before buying.
Will an imported code work with your account?
Check the code’s region before purchase. Rockstar says PlayStation redemption depends on the region associated with the platform account and recommends buying from a retailer in the same country as that account to avoid activation problems. Rockstar says Xbox codes are not region-locked. The platform and edition support page has Rockstar’s current code guidance.

Are Standard and Ultimate different platforms?
No. Standard and Ultimate are editions of the game, not separate platforms. Rockstar says Standard includes the game, while Ultimate adds listed in-game content. Standard Edition owners can separately purchase an Ultimate Edition Upgrade through the PlayStation or Microsoft stores.
Rockstar’s support page says digital pre-load is set for local midnight on November 12, 2026, and that codes for the physical package can be used for pre-loading beginning November 12. These are launch details and may change; check Rockstar’s current support information before relying on them.
