The Roman numeral for 35 is XXXV. A second valid answer is V and VII, because 5 × 7 = 35. Both are standard constructions, but in The Password Game the rule is judged on your whole password, so a correct pair can still fail once other rules add numeral letters.
The two constructions that hit 35
- XXXV: a single numeral that represents 35 (three X values of 10 and one V of 5).
- V and VII: a factor pair, where V is 5 and VII is 7, and 5 × 7 = 35.
Either one works as a starting point. Which you choose matters less than what else ends up in the password, which is where most players get stuck.
Why a rule that passed can fail later
The Password Game stacks its requirements on one editable password. Each new rule is revealed after earlier ones are met, and it is checked against the entire string, not just the text you typed for it. A word added to satisfy a later rule can introduce new uppercase numeral letters, which changes the product the game evaluates. The rule that was green a moment ago can turn red without any change to the numerals you deliberately placed.
Which letters count as Roman numerals
The letters to audit are the uppercase Roman numeral characters below. The values are the standard Roman numeral values; the game’s own handling of them is covered in the next section.

| M | 1000 |
Because the rule multiplies, a single extra I or V elsewhere in the password can move the result away from 35. Scan the whole string, not only the part you edited last.
How to check your password when the rule breaks
- Note which numeral letters your intended construction uses (for example, the letters in XXXV, or the letters in V and VII).
- Read the full password from start to finish and list every uppercase I, V, X, L, C, D, or M, including ones inside words added for other rules.
- Remove or replace stray uppercase numeral letters, then recheck the rule’s status indicator.
- If the rule is still failing, try the other construction, or rebuild the numerals in a separate, clearly delimited block so you can see exactly what is contributing.
- Treat the live indicator as the final check after every edit, not your own arithmetic.
Does lowercase change the result?
Lowercase letters may not count as Roman numerals in a rule that only reads uppercase characters, so a lowercase word could avoid adding to the product. This is a plausible behavior rather than something the rule text states outright, and it is not confirmed by the game’s own documentation. Test it on your own password: change one letter’s case and watch whether the rule status changes. Do not rely on the assumption without that check.
How the rule is usually phrased
Players typically search for this in the form “What roman numerals multiply to 35 in the password game?” The rule itself is often paraphrased as: the Roman numerals in your password should multiply to 35. Use the wording the game shows on screen when you compare against a guide.

The most concrete reference available for this rule is an independent analysis of the game’s opening rules, which describes the password as cumulative and checks the early rule set. That analysis does not cover every later rule, and it is not official documentation from the developer. The game may also have changed since it was written, so later rule text or behavior can differ. If the live prompt or its feedback disagrees with this article, follow the game as it currently runs.

- Established: 35 is the target product, and XXXV and V and VII both evaluate to 35 on their own.
- Established as a risk: other uppercase numeral letters in the password can change the product.
- Not established: the game’s exact internal method for reading numerals, and any official statement about lowercase letters.
Note that the constructions are arithmetic facts you can verify on paper; whether the game accepts them depends on the full password it is checking.
