Green Felt Solitaire has not shut down. When we checked on October 8, 2026, the official site at greenfelt.net was live, its homepage listed solitaire, puzzle and arcade games, and its dedicated Solitaire page loaded. The site states that its games need no download. What many players remember as a disappearance is better explained by past outages and by behavior changes the developers made in 2025. If the game still will not load for you, the cause is specific to your device, browser or network, and the steps near the end of this article will help you narrow it down.
Is the official site still running?
Yes, as of the October 8, 2026 check. Three things were confirmed on that date:
- The homepage at greenfelt.net is live and lists browser-playable solitaire variants, puzzle games and arcade games.
- The Solitaire page is available. The homepage describes its games as playable in the browser with no download.
- The developers’ forum index was also reachable.
Availability can change from one week to the next, so treat this as a snapshot rather than a guarantee for every reader.
Why players remember outages
Green Felt has had interruptions before, and the developers have described them openly on their blog. The table below lists the dated events we could verify, with the status of each as of October 2026.

| Date | What the developers reported | Status in October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 2005 | The developer blog says the site began this year. | Background only. |
| 2016 | The database passed one billion recorded games. The developer post identifies the billionth as a FreeCell game played on July 30, 2016. | Historical milestone. It describes scale, not current traffic. |
| June 2018 | The developers documented a counter ceiling of 2,147,483,647 recorded games. Database work temporarily affected game recording and high scores. | Past disruption. The ceiling was a technical identifier limit, not a player count. |
| September 2025 | Code changes to the main site: unfinished games are saved in the browser, and auto-moves were adjusted. The developer post is dated September 6, 2025. | Described as a beta change in the developer post. Current behavior is covered in the next section. |
| October 8, 2026 | Homepage, Solitaire page and forum index were reachable at the time of checking. | Live at the time of checking. |
Forum threads from 2018 contain reports from players who could not reach the Klondike game or who lost access during that period. Those posts are user reports from a specific time, and they do not show what happens today.
What changed in 2025
The developers’ September 6, 2025 post describes two changes that players are most likely to notice.
Rank #2
- Play Klondike solitaire draw 1 & draw 3 modes
- Choose scoring mode: Standard or Vegas solitaire scoring
- Challenge yourself with the hard mode
- Receive special mark everyday
- Build your own Trophies Display Rack
Unfinished games are saved in the browser
The developers wrote: “The only very large visible change is that solitaire games that aren’t finished are now saved to your browser if you navigate away or close the window.” In practice, if you leave a half-finished game and come back in the same browser, the game can be restored. The save lives in that browser on that device. The developers’ announcement does not say it syncs to other devices, so do not expect to pick up the same game on a phone after starting it on a laptop.
Auto-moves consider only visible cards
The auto-move feature was also adjusted. The developers explained: “Now it will only consider cards that the player can see (which seems fair because it’s supposed to be a shortcut for players).” If a board appears to be moving differently than it used to, this change is the likely reason.

If the game still won’t load for you
The evidence we reviewed does not explain why a particular reader cannot load the site. These steps help you separate a problem with your setup from a problem with the site itself.
- Open greenfelt.net directly instead of using an old bookmark, then choose the Solitaire listing from the homepage. Old links may point to pages that have since moved.
- Try the same page in a different browser or in a private window. If it loads there, the problem is likely your browser’s settings or extensions rather than the site.
- If a game looks different from how you left it, check whether you are in the same browser and on the same device where you started. The saved unfinished game is kept locally, so a different browser will not show it.
- If the page fails, note the exact error message, the browser and version, the device, and whether you are on a home, school or work network. Those details are what would be needed to diagnose a specific failure, and they are more useful than repeating “it doesn’t load” in a forum.
Where the answer stands
Green Felt Solitaire is still operating. What readers remember as “what happened” is most likely a combination of the 2018 database disruption, the outage reports that circulated then, and the 2025 changes to saving and auto-moves. For anything beyond that, the developers’ own blog and the live homepage are the best sources.
