GamesBeat reported that the mobile game had generated $2 billion in revenue about 10 months after launch; Driver also said development took seven years from project start to global release. Those are reported figures and an executive’s account, not independently audited results.
What was announced, and what happened at the Summit?
In an April 5, 2024 announcement, GamesBeat said Scopely co-CEOs Walter Driver and Javier Ferreira, along with chief revenue officer Tim O’Brien, would speak about MONOPOLY GO! at GamesBeat Summit 2024. The event was scheduled for May 20–21 at the Marina del Rey Marriott in Los Angeles. GamesBeat’s announcement framed the appearance around the game’s success.
The published agenda described the Scopely session as “Small Screens, Big Business: Scopely leaders discuss the road to mobile game success.” It listed Driver and Ferreira, with GamesBeat’s Dean Takahashi moderating, from noon to 12:30 p.m. The stated focus was Scopely’s growth and lessons from its path to building a leading mobile-games business. The Summit agenda is the source for those session details.
After the event, GamesBeat published an edited transcript describing a fireside chat between Driver, Ferreira, and Takahashi. That post-event account is not identical to the original announcement’s three-executive description: the announcement named O’Brien as well, while the agenda and transcript identify Driver and Ferreira. The edited transcript connects their discussion to the Summit’s theme of resilience and adaptation.

What revenue figures were reported?
GamesBeat reported that MONOPOLY GO! generated $2 billion in revenue about 10 months after launch. That figure appeared in the 2024 announcement coverage and the later Summit transcript. The cited GamesBeat articles do not provide an independent audit or a breakdown of how the game generated the revenue, so it is best understood as a reported milestone rather than an audited result.
A later figure should be kept separate in time and attribution. Savvy Games Group’s 2024 annual report said MONOPOLY GO! was the fastest mobile game in history to reach $3 billion in revenue; the report labels the Scopely statistics as company data. This is a later company-reported milestone, not evidence that the earlier $2 billion report was an audited measurement. Savvy Games Group’s 2024 annual report also lists more than 2.4K Scopely employees worldwide. GamesBeat’s May 2024 transcript introduction, by comparison, reported more than 2,300 employees; these are period-specific scale figures, not necessarily directly comparable snapshots.

How long did MONOPOLY GO! take to develop?
Driver said the game took seven years from the start of the project to global release. In GamesBeat’s edited transcript, he said: “We’ve talked publicly about how it took seven years from the time we started it until the time it was globally released.” He also described the team restarting with new designs more than once. This is Driver’s account of the development process, not a separately documented production timeline.
What was Scopely’s strategy beyond one hit?
The conversation’s broader point was that Scopely wanted to build a company capable of producing repeat successes, rather than relying on one successful game. Ferreira described that intention this way: “We thought it was important in the beginning to not just try to build a single product or just get traction, but really have a blueprint for a company that could have repeated success over long periods of time.”

Driver also summarized the company’s attitude toward change: “We say a lot at Scopely that change is never painful, but resistance to change is painful.” Both statements are excerpts from GamesBeat’s edited transcript and are attributed to the executives who made them. Taken together, they place the game’s reported performance in the context of a company-building approach: develop the organization and its ability to adapt, not just a single product.

Hasbro separately describes an app-inspired MONOPOLY GO! tabletop game as a social tabletop version connected to the mobile title. Hasbro’s product information explains that physical game; it is distinct from the mobile game discussed at the Summit.
