It covers default performance, legibility, controls, and software or hardware compatibility. It does not rate games running on a PC and streamed to the headset, and it is not a guarantee of identical performance in every scene or setup.
What does Steam Frame Verified mean?
Valve’s Standalone Verified review is designed to indicate how a game works on Steam Frame without users needing to configure it first. A Verified game passes all checks, with no configuration work required to access its full functionality. The review process applies to locally running 2D and VR games; Valve explicitly excludes games running on a PC and streamed to Frame from this process. The rating describes how a game is presented to customers, not whether it is available to play. Valve says compatibility results do not determine whether a game is available on Frame.
What are the Steam Frame compatibility labels?

| Unknown | The game has not completed review, so the rating does not establish how it works on Frame. |
What does the review check?
Valve’s checklist focuses on the default standalone experience. The same criteria apply to VR and non-VR titles, with performance thresholds differing by type.

Performance and readability
- The game’s default graphics configuration must perform well enough to meet Valve’s criteria.
- Text and interface elements must be clear and legible on the built-in display.
- Valve’s stated Verified minimum during normal play is 30 fps at 1280×720 for 2D titles, and 72 fps at 1728×1728 for VR titles. These are review thresholds, not independent benchmark results or a promise that a game will maintain those rates in every scene or configuration.
Controls and input
- The default controller configuration must let players access all game content without changing in-game settings to enable controller support.
- When using Frame’s physical controls, button prompts should match Frame or supported Xbox 360/One naming. Inactive mouse and keyboard prompts should not appear.
- Any launcher must also be navigable with a controller. A game may still receive Playable if it requires manual controller setup or opening the on-screen keyboard.
Software and hardware compatibility
- The game should not warn players that Frame’s software or hardware is unsupported.
- Proton-specific blocking bugs or performance problems can result in an Unsupported rating.
What does the rating mean for Steam Frame controls?
Valve describes Steam Frame Controllers as tracked VR controllers with capacitive finger tracking and familiar gamepad inputs, including a D-pad, ABXY buttons, thumbsticks, triggers, and bumpers. Valve also says the controllers are backwards compatible with the SteamVR catalog. These product capabilities do not replace the game-specific review: the rating checks whether a title’s default setup works properly with Frame controls.
Does Steam Frame Verified apply to streamed games?
No. The Standalone Verified review covers games running locally on Frame. If a game runs on a PC and is streamed to the headset, this rating provides no compatibility verdict for that streamed session.

Valve says Frame is designed primarily for PC streaming while also supporting standalone games. Its product page describes a dedicated 6 GHz wireless adapter and dual radios intended to support streaming, but those design features do not establish the quality or performance of a particular network session. Look for the Standalone Verified label for the clearest indication that a game has passed Valve’s out-of-box checks. Playable indicates that the game functions but may need user setup. Unsupported indicates a known incompatibility under Valve’s definition, while Unknown means no completed review establishes the game’s Frame experience. The rating system communicates compatibility; it does not itself determine whether a game is offered to customers on Frame.
