What timer did the February 4 update add?
Arrowhead Game Studios’ patch 01.002.101, dated February 4, 2025, says: “Implemented a timer for the Illuminate dropship wreckages to despawn to prevent them from obstructing paths in the colonies.” In other words, wreckage left by Illuminate dropships is set to disappear so it does not block colony paths.

The patch notes do not state how long wreckage remains before despawning. They also do not describe a dark meter or connect one to this cleanup timer.
Does the patch identify a “dark meter”?
No. The official notes document the wreckage timer, but do not name, define, or explain a dark meter. Without the specific screen or screenshot, there is not enough authoritative information to identify what a player may be seeing or whether it is a timer at all.

A February 5, 2025 community discussion mentioned screenshots that players interpreted as Illuminate forces accumulating Dark Fluid to move Meridia to a Super Earth defense operation. That is an anecdotal interpretation of screenshots; it does not establish that a visible meter tracked Dark Fluid, or that such a display was added by the February 4 patch.
What else changed in patch 01.002.101?
Among the patch’s listed changes, spray-weapon gas status duration increased from 6 seconds to 10 seconds. That number describes the gas effect, not the dropship wreckage timer or a dark meter. The notes also list changes involving emotes during ragdoll or flight, FRV camera and handling, the AX/TX-13 “Guard Dog” Dog Breath rework, balance, crashes, weapons, and stratagems.

How to tell which display you mean
- Wreckage disappearing in a colony: this matches the official timer note for Illuminate dropship wrecks.
- A dark-colored bar, counter, or map display: the February 4 notes do not identify it. Its meaning cannot be confirmed from the cited official patch information alone.
A secondary Helldivers Wiki patch entry corroborates the patch date and wreckage-timer item, but does not document a dark meter. The official patch notes remain the clearest source for what the update explicitly changed.
