The 2018 Subor Z+ preview showed a China-market AMD-powered system running Battlefield 1 and Destiny 2 at about 60 fps at 1080p in the reported tests. That was promising evidence of what the custom Zen-and-Vega hardware could do, not proof that every game would run at 1080p/60 or that final retail software would match the preview.
What hardware was inside the Subor Z+?
Subor announced two related products for China: a Windows-based gaming PC and a dedicated console. Contemporary technical reporting described a custom AMD chip rather than a standard desktop Ryzen APU. The configuration below summarizes the reported platform; “up to” matters because the Vega unit count was presented as a maximum.

Calling the chip “Ryzen” describes its Zen CPU lineage, not its exact identity: the Subor processor was custom hardware, not a Ryzen 5 2400G or another off-the-shelf desktop APU. The dedicated console and Windows PC were also related but distinct product configurations, so a result for one should not automatically be treated as a result for the other.
How well did it run PC games?
Digital Foundry’s September 2018 hands-on coverage, reproduced by ResetEra, reported that the test unit reached about 60 fps in Battlefield 1 and Destiny 2 at 1080p. Notebookcheck described the observed results as 1080p Ultra. Those are specific preview results, not a universal performance guarantee: the hands-on coverage explicitly noted that drivers and other software were not final.

The preview suggested that the combination of CPU performance and memory bandwidth helped the system preserve image quality rather than depending as heavily on dynamic resolution scaling. That is useful context for the reported frame rates, but it does not establish identical behavior in other games, settings, or final firmware.
Was it really as powerful as a PS4 Pro?
A contemporaneous Eurogamer feed excerpt characterized the Subor hardware as roughly PS4 Pro-like in GPU compute, while noting its newer Ryzen CPU architecture. Read that as a broad comparison of graphics-compute capability, not as proof that the machines deliver identical game performance. A TFLOPs figure alone cannot account for game-engine optimization, memory behavior, frame-rate stability, drivers, or a particular title’s settings.

For that reason, the most useful evidence is the named-game preview rather than the compute figure alone. Even those game results remain bounded by the test conditions and unfinished drivers; they do not establish how the Subor compares with a PS4 Pro across a library of games.

AMD’s February 12, 2018 release presented the Ryzen 5 2400G and Ryzen 3 2200G as quad-core Zen desktop processors with integrated Radeon Vega graphics. AMD’s own 1080p lab results offer a point of reference for the Zen-and-Vega generation, but they are not independent Subor tests. The settings differ from the Subor preview, so the figures should not be read as a head-to-head ranking.

AMD specified its own test lab, drivers, and settings for these results. Its figures help show the performance AMD reported for consumer desktop APUs, but they do not identify the Subor chip or predict how the Subor console performs.

What the preview can—and cannot—tell you
- It can show: the reported Subor test unit ran two demanding PC games at roughly 60 fps at 1080p, with Notebookcheck identifying the observed quality setting as Ultra.
- It cannot establish: that every game reaches 60 fps, that the rate is consistently locked, or that final retail drivers and firmware behave the same way.
- It does not establish: a current worldwide retail channel for the console. The contemporary reporting described a China-market platform.
- It does not make: the Subor-Z a Ryzen 5 2400G system or a drop-in replacement for a PS4 Pro; each comparison addresses different hardware and evidence.
