Pokémon Legends: Z-A launched on October 16, 2025. Reported launch times put the US West Coast release at 9:00 p.m. PDT on October 15, 2025, which is the same moment as 12:00 a.m. EDT on October 16 on the US East Coast. Reported times for the UK, Central Europe, Sydney and Tokyo were 12:00 a.m. on October 16 in each local time zone. The game has been available since that launch, so the practical question for most readers now is which edition to buy and where, not when it unlocks.

Launch times by region

The table below lists the launch times that were published in October 2025 for six locations. The UTC column is a calculation from each reported local time, added so readers can compare them directly.

Region Reported local launch time Local date Equivalent UTC Notes
US East Coast (EDT) 12:00 a.m. October 16, 2025 04:00 UTC, October 16 Same moment as the US West Coast entry
US West Coast (PDT) 9:00 p.m. October 15, 2025 04:00 UTC, October 16 Falls on the previous calendar day locally
United Kingdom (BST) 12:00 a.m. October 16, 2025 23:00 UTC, October 15 Reported time
Central Europe (CEST) 12:00 a.m. October 16, 2025 22:00 UTC, October 15 Reported time
Sydney 12:00 a.m. October 16, 2025 13:00 UTC, October 15 Reported as AEST. Clocks had moved to daylight time (AEDT, UTC+11) that week, so the UTC figure uses AEDT.
Tokyo (JST) 12:00 a.m. October 16, 2025 15:00 UTC, October 15 Reported time

These figures come from launch-day coverage by GameSpot, which said its schedule was posted by IGN, and from TechRadar’s live coverage, which attributed the same times to The Pokémon Company. They are regional examples, not a complete official timetable for every country, territory or account region.

How to read these times

  • Always pair the time with the date. The US West Coast figure is 9:00 p.m. on October 15 locally. Anyone who looks only at “October 16” will misread it.
  • Do not assume midnight everywhere. The reports list midnight for four of the non-US locations, but that does not establish that every region, retailer or account unlocked at midnight local time. The published figures are the only regional times available, and they should be quoted as reported.
  • The two US coasts are one moment. 9:00 p.m. PDT and 12:00 a.m. EDT describe the same instant, so the US does not have two launch times.

Why the time can differ by store

Nintendo’s support guidance is the most direct official statement on timing. Nintendo Support’s “When Are New Games Added to the Nintendo eShop?” says: “The exact release time of games on the Nintendo eShop is decided by the publisher and may vary depending on the title.” The same guidance says digital software that is also sold physically is usually available at 9:00 p.m. Pacific Time the night before the physical release date. The US West Coast time in the table matches that pattern, but Nintendo describes the pattern as general and does not guarantee it for any single title. Treat the reported times as the best published evidence for this launch, not as a rule that applies to every storefront.

Which edition launched

Two versions launched on October 16, 2025. Nintendo’s official product page describes the Switch 2 Edition as offering “improved performance, enhanced resolution, and smoother frame rates.” Both versions are real-time games; battles use real-time movement and commands rather than turn-based combat.

Checking availability and buying now

  1. Confirm which console you own. The Switch 2 Edition is for Nintendo Switch 2, and the upgrade pack is for owners of the original Nintendo Switch game.
  2. For a digital copy, check the Nintendo eShop on your console or in your account’s region. Stock and listings depend on your region.
  3. For a physical copy, the official “Now Available” page lists Nintendo eShop, My Nintendo Store and Pokémon retailers as sales channels. Check current stock and price at the retailer before buying, because this article does not verify either.
  4. If you are converting a launch time for a region not in the table, start from the nearest listed local time and the date given with it, then convert to your own zone with a time-zone tool.

Prices and inventory change over time, so use a live storefront check for both.
