Before buying a VR headset, confirm it supports the games and platform you want, fits comfortably over your face and glasses, works with the hardware you already own, suits your available play space, and fits your full budget. A headset’s display specifications alone cannot tell you whether it will fit you or play your games.
Start with the games and platform you want
Write down the games you expect to play and the device you plan to use before comparing headsets. Check compatibility for the specific titles, not just the platform name: support for one console or PC does not guarantee access to every VR game.
Sony says PS VR2 console play requires a PS5. It is not compatible with PS4 and does not play original PS VR titles. PS VR2 can also be used with a PC through a separate PC adapter and SteamVR games, but that is a different setup from console play and some features available on PS5 are absent on PC. Sony’s PS VR2 compatibility guidance explains these differences.
Check PC feature differences, not just basic compatibility
On PC, PS VR2 does not provide HDR output, headset eye tracking, headset feedback, Sense controller adaptive triggers, or the full Sense controller haptics available on PS5. Sony says basic controller vibration remains. These are platform-specific differences, not a statement that PC play is unsupported. Sony’s PC compatibility page lists the details.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Confirm fit, adjustments, and glasses clearance
Look for adjustments that let you position the headset for your face, including headband fit, headset scope or distance from the face, and lens spacing. Sony says PS VR2 has an adjustable headband, scope, and lens separation. It is designed to accommodate glasses, but very wide or unusually shaped frames may not fit. Sony’s FAQ addresses both adjustment and glasses use.
Manufacturer guidance is not a guarantee of a good fit for every face or comfortable long sessions. If possible, try the headset with your own glasses and check the retailer’s return policy before purchase. Prescription lens inserts, if you need them, are another potential cost to verify for the specific headset.

Compare display specifications in context
Sony lists PS VR2 with an OLED display, 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye, refresh rates of 90 Hz and 120 Hz, adjustable lens separation, and an approximately 110-degree field of view. These are product specifications, not a universal comfort rating or proof that a headset is best for a particular game. Sony’s technical specifications give the current figures.
When comparing specific headsets, look at resolution per eye, refresh rate, lens adjustment, tracking method, connection requirements, and supported games together. A strong specification in one area cannot compensate for a headset that does not fit, connect to your system, or support the titles you want.

Check the equipment and connections required
PS5 console use
For PS VR2 console play, you need a PS5. If you do not already own one, include the console in your setup budget rather than comparing the headset price alone.
PS VR2 PC use
Sony’s listed minimum PC requirements include Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-7600 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100 processor (Zen 2 or later), at least 8 GB of RAM, a specified compatible graphics card, DisplayPort 1.4, USB 3.0, and Bluetooth 4.0 or later. Sony also specifies a dedicated DisplayPort output; DisplayPort over USB Type-C does not work with the adapter. These are minimum requirements, not a promise of ideal performance. Check Sony’s current PC requirements against your exact PC configuration before buying.

PC headsets can require other components too. For example, Valve’s Index kit lists a PC, base stations, and compatible system components among its requirements. Review the Valve Index product information for the intended setup rather than assuming every headset connects the same way.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Measure the play area you can actually use
For PS VR2, Sony recommends at least 1 m x 1 m of clear space for seated or standing play, with enough room to move your arms freely; roomscale play requires 2 m x 2 m. These are PS VR2 guidelines, not dimensions to apply automatically to every headset or game. Check the play-space guidance for the headset and titles you intend to use. Sony’s play-area guidance describes the PS VR2 requirements.

Calculate the full setup cost
Work from what you own and what your intended setup requires. Add the headset, any console or gaming PC you still need, compatible games, required adapters, and accessories you genuinely expect to use. Depending on the setup, possible extras include a charging station, audio equipment, prescription lens inserts, replacement parts, or comfort accessories.
Sony lists the PS VR2 headset, Sense controllers, USB cable, stereo headphones, three pairs of earpieces, and printed materials in the box. The PC adapter and controller charging station are separately described products, so check whether either is necessary for your plan and its current local price. Sony’s PS VR2 product page lists package contents and those separate products.
Prices and availability vary by retailer and location. Compare live listings for your region and date, and keep required hardware separate from optional accessories so the total reflects the setup you actually need.
