Check five things before you authorize any game-tracking app: who operates it, which account data it requests, whether the game publisher permits its access method, what the app’s privacy policy says about copies of your data, and where you can revoke access. Start the sign-in from the app but complete it on the game platform’s genuine authorization page. Never give a tracker your game password. An official OAuth-style connection can issue a limited token without disclosing that password, but revoking the token later does not automatically prove that the tracker deleted data it already collected.
What a tracking-app connection actually does
A tracker may need account or game information to display statistics, match history, achievements, progression, online status, or other features. In an official authorization flow, the platform asks you to approve specific access and then gives the third party a token or equivalent permission. Riot Games describes its Riot Sign-On (RSO) service as using OAuth2 so players can authorize access to account or game information without sharing a password.

That protection depends on the flow you are actually seeing. A page embedded in a tracker is not automatically official. Check the address, branding, and account-provider controls before entering credentials. A tracker that asks you to type your game password into its own form is using a fundamentally different and riskier arrangement; do not continue.

Authorization also does not mean the publisher has approved every feature the app performs. Sign-in permission, game-data permission, and permission to run software while a game is active are separate questions.

The pre-authorization checklist
1. Identify the operator and the precise purpose
Find the developer or company name, its official site, a support or privacy contact, and the exact feature that needs account data. The name shown in an app store, the name on the consent screen, and the legal entity in the privacy policy should be understandable and consistent. If you cannot determine who operates the service, stop.
Write down what you expect the app to do: for example, import match history, show achievement progress, or synchronize a public profile. Then compare that purpose with the requested access. A simple statistics display does not, on its face, explain a request to control gameplay, read local game files, or maintain broad account privileges. This is a practical reasonableness check, not a universal permission rule; platforms define their own scopes.
2. Begin on the platform’s real authorization page
Follow the tracker’s connection button only until it redirects to the game or platform’s official sign-in and consent flow. Check the browser’s address and the account name shown before approving. Riot’s RSO process redirects a player to sign in and authorize a third party, allowing a token to be issued without the player giving the third party a password.
Do not paste a password into a chat, email, direct message, spreadsheet, or tracker-owned login form. If you already did, change the game password through the platform’s official account page, review active sessions, and revoke unfamiliar applications.

3. Read every permission on the consent screen
Do not click through a generic “Allow” button without expanding the details. Record each category of information, whether it is required or optional, and whether the permission is one-time or persistent. The same words can have different meanings on different platforms.

These examples are platform-specific. They do not establish that every tracker receives the same data or that an app is safe merely because it uses a familiar sign-in button.
4. Check the game’s third-party software rules
A legitimate account login can still lead to a prohibited in-game behavior. Riot’s support guidance says third-party applications may provide useful functions such as stat tracking, but software must not undermine competitive integrity or violate the game’s terms. Its stated principle is: “No software should compromise game integrity or negatively impact the in-game player experience, from the moment you press ‘Play’ until you log off.”
Riot says applications approved and built with its official API should rarely cause issues. It also warns that an unauthorized application interacting with the game in a harmful way can cause an account to be flagged for suspicious behavior. A recent Riot support announcement says remaining third-party applications were moved to official API access and game-memory access was prevented as a security and game-integrity measure.

Do not transfer Riot’s policy to another publisher. Open the current rules for the particular game and look for restrictions on overlays, automation, scraping, client modification, memory reading, bots, or competitive advantages. A tracker that only imports server-side history is a different risk from software that runs alongside the game and inspects its process.
5. Read the tracker’s privacy policy before disclosure
Look for clear answers to six questions:
- Collection: Which account identifiers, public profile fields, gameplay records, device details, or usage logs are collected?
- Purpose: Are the data used only to provide the requested dashboard, or also for analytics, personalization, advertising, or product development?
- Sharing: Are data disclosed to hosting providers, analytics companies, advertisers, affiliates, or other customers?
- Retention: How long are account-linked records and backups kept after you stop using the service?
- Deletion: Is there a self-service deletion control, an email request process, or a stated response period?
- Contact and jurisdiction: Who handles privacy requests, and which entity is legally responsible?
Riot’s privacy notice cautions that external services may collect and handle information under their own policies and that Riot cannot guarantee those practices. It also describes declining integrations or disabling them in account settings as ways to limit disclosures. Read the tracker’s own policy rather than assuming the game publisher’s privacy notice covers it.
6. Locate the off switch before you approve
Find the platform’s authorized-app or connected-services page in a separate tab. If you cannot find a way to remove the connection, reconsider approving it. The labels and paths can change, so use the current help page for your region and platform.

How to evaluate the requested permissions
Classify each scope into a practical risk level before accepting it. The names differ by platform, so use the consent screen’s explanation rather than relying on a generic list.

- Identity and basic profile: Often used to associate the right account with the service. Confirm which identifier is exposed and whether it is publicly visible.
- Gameplay or progression history: May include matches, results, characters, ranks, achievements, or timestamps. Check whether the app keeps a permanent history.
- Presence and online status: Can reveal when you play or whether you are currently online. Decide whether that disclosure is acceptable to you.
- Account-management actions: Treat requests to change settings, manage friends, send messages, or perform transactions as materially broader than read-only statistics.
- Local-client or process access: This is not the same as an account-data token. Verify the game’s policy before installing anything that reads memory, injects an overlay, automates input, or modifies files.
If an optional scope is not needed for the feature you want, leave it off. If the screen does not explain a scope, use the platform’s help documentation or the app’s support contact before proceeding.
Compare two or more trackers without guessing
Put the apps side by side using the same evidence. A polished interface or a large user community is not a substitute for narrow permissions and a clear removal process.

What to do immediately after approval
- Save the tracker’s name, the date you connected it, and the permissions you accepted. A screenshot or note helps you recognize it later.
- Check the platform’s authorized-app list and confirm that the entry matches the operator you intended to approve.
- Use the tracker’s settings to disable optional sharing, public profile display, notifications, or social features you do not need.
- Watch for unexpected account emails, new linked services, altered settings, or gameplay software that triggers warnings. Stop using the tracker if its behavior differs from the consent description.
- Review the privacy policy again when the service changes its terms, adds a new integration, or introduces advertising or social features.
How to revoke access and request deletion
PlayStation
Open Account Management and the Authorized Apps area, select the service, and use the unlink control. The official support instructions provide separate paths for the web account page, PS5, PS4, and the PlayStation App; follow the current instructions for the device you use. Confirm that the app disappears from the authorized list, then sign out of the tracker.
Epic Games
Use Epic’s account controls for connected products or services and revoke the tracker’s access. The exact label may change, so begin from Epic’s current account-help documentation rather than a link supplied in an unsolicited message. After revocation, contact the tracker to ask whether it retains imported records and how to submit a deletion request.

Riot Games
Open your Riot account settings and disable the relevant integration. If the tracker also installed a client, overlay, or companion program, uninstall or disable that component separately; removing an account token does not necessarily remove local software or cached data. Check the tracker’s privacy contact for deletion of records already copied.
What revocation does—and does not—prove
Revocation is a control over future authorization. The platform guidance establishes unlinking or disabling, but it does not make a universal promise that every record already sent to a third party has been deleted. Ask the tracker to identify the data it holds, its retention period, backups, and the method for erasure. Keep the confirmation of your request.
Warning signs and recovery steps
The tracker asks for your password
Close the form and use the platform’s official account page instead. If you entered the password, change it immediately, enable available multifactor authentication, review active sessions, and revoke unknown authorized apps.

The permission list is broader than the feature
Do not accept first and investigate later. Cancel, ask the operator why each scope is necessary, and look for a read-only alternative. An unexplained request to control account functions, access payments, or interact with the game client is a reason to stop.
The app is allowed to sign in but not to run in the game
Separate the account authorization from the software behavior. Read the publisher’s current third-party-app rules, especially for overlays, automation, scraping, memory reading, and client modification. Remove the software if it conflicts with those rules, even if the original sign-in was legitimate.
You cannot find a revoke control
Search the platform’s official help center for “authorized apps,” “connected services,” or “revoke access,” then check the tracker’s account settings. If neither source explains removal, do not authorize the service; if it is already connected, contact the platform and the tracker and monitor the account for unexpected activity.
The practical decision
Connect only when the operator is identifiable, the official authorization page shows narrowly explained permissions, the game’s rules permit the access method, the privacy policy answers what happens to your data, and you have already located the revoke control. Treat the connection as a reversible permission—not as a blanket endorsement of every feature the tracker may add later—and revisit it whenever the app or game changes its terms.
