Before you opt in, check that you have the right game and developer, that it is offered in your store region and supports your device, and that you understand its privacy, age-rating and purchase disclosures. Google Play calls the feature pre-registration; Apple calls it pre-order. Neither is a promise that the game will suit your device or that its launch details will stay unchanged.
Confirm the game and developer on the official store listing
Open the game from its Google Play or Apple App Store listing and verify the title, developer and listing details before opting in. A promotion or link elsewhere is not proof that it leads to the game you intend. Store mechanisms can help you identify and report listings, but they do not establish that every claim about a game is accurate. Apple describes its App Store consumer protections and reporting options in its guidance on installing apps from the App Store.
Apple’s App Review Guidelines say, “Apps you submit for pre-order on the App Store must be complete and deliverable as submitted.” That is a developer policy, not a guarantee that Apple has independently tested every advertised quality of a particular game. Check the live listing and the developer’s linked information for claims that matter to you.
Check whether the game is available in your region
Developers choose the countries or regions where a campaign is available. On Google Play, the relevant pre-registration country is the country registered to your Google Play account, not simply where you are physically located. Apple also lets developers select regions, and release timing can differ between them. If the game does not appear as available to you, confirm your store account’s country or region and the game’s intended launch coverage rather than relying on a third-party announcement.

Check device compatibility—and separate alerts from downloads
Compare your device and operating-system version with the compatibility information on the game’s current listing. An opt-in does not itself establish that your device can run the game. The platforms also treat launch notifications and automatic downloads differently:
- Google Play: pre-registered users can receive a notification when the game is available. Automatic installation is conditional: Google’s documented requirements include Android M or later, Play Store version 19.2 or later, an eligible account and device, and app-size limits. Devices that do not qualify for auto-install may still receive the launch notification. Check Google’s current pre-registration guidance for the full conditions.
- Apple App Store: Apple says a released pre-ordered app automatically downloads to the device used to pre-order, subject to eligibility and automatic-download settings. Apple’s developer documentation lists the supported operating-system versions for starting a pre-order; check the live listing and your device’s settings for current applicability.
If you do not want a download to begin automatically, review the relevant store and device download settings before opting in. The exact controls can vary by operating system and account, so do not assume one path applies to every device.

Treat the launch date as a plan, not a guarantee
Check the expected release date again as launch approaches. Apple allows developers to update a pre-order date before release, and release timing can vary by region. Apple’s scheduling windows are product rules: 2–180 days for a first release and 2–365 days for an additional region. Google gives a pre-registration campaign a 90-day window per country; after that, the developer must launch the game in production. These limits describe platform campaigns, not a promise that a game will launch on a particular day.
Read the privacy and age disclosures for this game
Check the age rating, privacy policy and data disclosures available from the listing. Consider whether the information the game says it collects makes sense for its features and whether its audience is appropriate for the player. General platform guidance cannot tell you what an unspecified game actually collects or how its developer handles that data.

For context, Android’s privacy guidance recommends accessing location while an app is visible where possible, requesting background location only when necessary, and handling sensitive data transparently and securely. Those are general development recommendations, not evidence about a particular game’s practices.
Check the price and how the game may make money
Do not assume that pre-registration means the game is free. Check whether the listing describes a paid game, in-app purchases or subscriptions, and look for information about randomized purchasable items if those matter to you. Apple’s guidelines require odds to be disclosed before customers buy randomized virtual items; that policy does not reveal whether a specific game includes them.

For a paid Apple pre-order, Apple says the charge happens when the game is released, not when you place the pre-order. If the price changes before release, Apple charges the lower of the accepted pre-order price and the release-date price. Check the listing and applicable store terms for the particular game and region.

Google says pre-registered users receive a Play Store notification when a game is published in production and becomes available for download; its separate auto-install conditions still apply.
