After defeating Darkrai, return to town and check for new dialogue or events. The Darkrai mission is a major postgame story milestone, but it does not end the game: Marine Resort becomes available shortly after clearing Dark Crater, and optional story, recruitment, and dungeon goals remain.
What happens after the Darkrai mission?
Start by checking back in town. New dialogue or an event may follow the mission, but the available walkthrough references do not establish a complete, fixed sequence of every trigger. If you have not yet completed Dark Crater, do that as part of the postgame progression: Marine Resort unlocks shortly afterward, according to Serebii’s dungeon guide.
Continue the story if you still have postgame content left
The Shaymin Village and Sky Peak storyline is story-adjacent postgame content, not a mandatory step for every player immediately after Darkrai. If you have not played it, check your available story events and pursue it when it opens. A walkthrough documents the post-graduation progression through Shaymin Village and the Sky Peak sequence; it does not establish that every player’s next required action after Darkrai is to go there.
Recruit Pokémon tied to the postgame
Some recruitments are linked to post-Darkrai milestones or later dungeon visits. Serebii’s legendary Pokémon listing says Cresselia automatically joins after the Darkrai mission. It also notes that Shaymin can be recruited on a second visit to Sky Peak Summit Pass 6F. Check the relevant dungeon and recruitment conditions before making a trip, since unlocking a destination and meeting a Pokémon’s recruitment condition are separate things.

Choose an optional goal
Once you have handled any story events you care about, the remaining game is open-ended. There is no single best order for the optional content; choose based on what you enjoy:
- Explore: Check the dungeon list for Marine Resort and other available destinations, then take missions in places you have not cleared.
- Collect: Work through specific recruitment conditions and revisit dungeons where a Pokémon can appear.
- Take on challenges: Pursue the Seven Treasures or Special Episodes as optional goals rather than required post-Darkrai steps.
The game also supports features such as Wonder Mail S, Sky Gifts, and friend rescue, described in the official Nintendo manual. These are available mechanics, not a prescribed next stage in the story.
