What’s actually slowing this PC down?

If you wanted the deck to play, buy it when its current price fits your budget and the deck is worth that price to you—not because you expect it to rebound or keep falling. Compare the exact deck’s current listings with recent completed sales. If you want only a few cards, compare those singles’ total cost with the sealed deck. If you already own it, keep it if you still enjoy playing it; sell only if you no longer want it and a real offer makes sense.
First, decide what the deck is worth to you
A price drop can make a deck more accessible, but it does not tell you whether the price will fall further or recover. Make the decision around what you want from the product:
- You want to play it: Judge the current price as the cost of a ready-to-play deck and the enjoyment you expect from it. Wizards says its reprints are intended to support enjoyable gameplay and give players opportunities to play with cards (reprint policy).
- You want a few cards: Add up the cost of the specific singles you want, including shipping and the condition you are willing to accept, then compare that total with the sealed deck price.
- You already own it: Separate the deck’s value to you as something to play from what someone might pay for it. Keep it if you still want it; consider selling if you do not and the amount you can actually receive is worth giving it up.
Compare asking prices with completed sales
A listing is a seller’s asking price, not proof that a buyer paid that amount. TCGplayer distinguishes its Market Price, based on recent completed sales, from its Listed Median, based on current listings. Those figures can differ substantially (TCGplayer pricing explanation; TCGplayer price points).
For the exact deck, compare recent sales and current listings while matching the product version and condition. Include shipping in the total. If you are selling, also look at actual buy offers and account for any costs that reduce your net proceeds. A marketplace’s recent-sale figure is useful context, not a guaranteed offer from that marketplace, a local store, or another buyer.

Check whether the sealed deck beats buying singles
Commander decks are designed as 100-card decks, with one copy of each card except basic lands, according to Wizards’ Reality Fracture Buyer’s Guide. That does not mean every card in a particular deck is worth buying for your collection. If you are buying for specific cards, compare only the singles you actually want against the sealed product, using comparable conditions and including shipping on both options. A sealed deck may be the simpler choice if you want the full ready-to-play list; singles may make more sense if you need only a small selection.
Use MSRP as a reference, not a price floor
MSRP is a suggested price, not a required retail price. Wizards said retailers can set their own prices (Wizards’ MSRP announcement). For example, Wizards announced an MSRP of $44.99 for an Aetherdrift Commander deck in October 2024. That is a dated, product-specific reference—not a current price for all Commander decks, a guarantee of availability, or evidence that a deck will appreciate.

What a reprint policy does—and does not—tell you
Wizards’ policy says, “Any card that isn’t on the reserved list may be reprinted,” and cautions that being outside the Reserved List “doesn’t indicate that there are any plans to reprint that card” (Wizards reprint policy). This describes what Wizards may reprint; it does not forecast a particular card’s or deck’s market price. There is no established universal percentage or timeline for how much Commander deck prices typically fall after a reprint, so avoid treating any single drop as a reliable pattern.

A practical buy, hold, or sell decision
- Identify your goal. Decide whether you want to play the deck, obtain particular cards, or sell a deck you already own.
- Price the exact option. Check current listings for the same product and condition, and include shipping. For singles, total only the cards you actually want.
- Check completed sales. Use recent transactions as a reality check against asking prices, while remembering they reflect a limited pool of sales and do not guarantee your own selling price.
- Choose based on your budget and use. Buy if the current total is acceptable for what you will get from it. Hold if you still value owning or playing it. Sell if the actual net offer is worth more to you than keeping it.
