Then determine whether the store recognizes ownership, whether the add-on is installed, whether the game and DLC regions match, and whether the game has unlocked access to it. These are separate failure points, and checking them in that order helps identify whether you need to fix an account or installation issue—or contact platform or game support.
Start by identifying which kind of problem you have
“Missing DLC” can mean several different things. The purchase may belong to another account; the correct account may own the add-on but the console or launcher has not installed or recognized it; a regional mismatch may prevent it from working with the game; or the game may have loaded the content but not made it available yet.

Work through the checks below in order. If the purchase is not in the account’s transaction history, focus on account identity or the transaction. If ownership is confirmed, move on to installation, license recognition, region, and in-game requirements. Individual games can have additional entitlement and access steps.

1. Check the account that made the purchase
Sign in to the platform account used to buy the DLC, then check its purchase or transaction history. A purchase is associated with the account that made it, so another profile on the same console may not show ownership. Nintendo notes that purchase history shows content bought by the selected Nintendo Account; a parent’s account history does not include purchases made by a child account. See Nintendo’s guidance on download-code and purchase problems.
For Epic Games Store, check the account’s transaction history and code-redemption records. On PC, SEGA’s guide also points users to Epic transaction history and account activation or purchase history. If you have more than one platform account, launcher account, or console profile, check each one you might have used at checkout.
Make sure you are checking the history for the storefront where you actually bought or redeemed the add-on. A game account, console profile, and storefront account can be different identities. If the DLC came from a code, check whether it appears in the platform account’s redemption records; if it was bought directly, look for the transaction in that account’s history. Have the receipt or transaction information available so you can distinguish a missing purchase record from a later installation problem.

2. Confirm that the store recognizes ownership
Open the game’s add-on page or the individual DLC listing while signed in to the buying account. On Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, an owned item may offer a redownload or Virtual Game Cards option. If the listing instead says “Add to Purchase” or shows a price, Nintendo says the selected Nintendo Account did not buy that item. Also check whether the software is hidden: hidden software must be enabled again before it can be redownloaded. Follow Nintendo’s steps for digital content missing from Switch 2 or Switch.
If the store does not show ownership, installing the game again will not establish that the account owns the DLC. Recheck the account, transaction, and any code redemption. Keep the receipt or transaction details in case the storefront needs to verify the purchase.
This is a useful decision point. If the platform listing recognizes ownership, continue to the download and license checks. If it does not, do not treat the absence from the game as proof that reinstalling will fix it: first establish which account made the purchase and whether the transaction or code redemption is recorded. Nintendo’s selected-account note is especially relevant when family members share a device but make purchases from separate accounts.

3. Install or re-enable the DLC
Store ownership and local installation are separate. If the purchase is visible but the content is not available, use the platform’s add-on management controls to check whether it is installed or selected for the game. A title can appear in your account’s purchase records while its files are not present on the device, so check the game’s content controls rather than relying only on the game library tile.

Open the game’s add-on or manage-content screen and check the DLC’s installation status. On PS5, also check available storage and the console’s installation status. If the add-on is not installed, download it from the game’s add-on controls or its store listing. Check that the console can complete downloads as well as whether an installation is pending. PlayStation’s add-on troubleshooting guide includes installation checks and, if other checks fail, deleting and reinstalling the game and add-on.
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
Sign in to the purchasing profile, then open My games & apps, select the game, and check Manage game and add-ons for available DLC. The cited console instructions come from publisher support, so menu wording may differ on your device. See SEGA’s console DLC access guidance.
Steam
In your Library, right-click the game, choose Properties, and open DLC. Check that the relevant add-on is selected. If it is selected but still unavailable, unchecking and rechecking it can prompt Steam to reinstall the DLC. Then check whether the game has an in-game access requirement.
Epic Games Store
Open the game’s Manage Add-Ons controls and verify that the DLC is enabled or installed. If it is absent from the add-on list, return to the Epic account’s transaction and code-redemption records to confirm that the purchase is associated with the signed-in account.

4. Refresh PlayStation license recognition
If PlayStation ownership is confirmed but the console cannot locate or use the add-on, restore licenses. PlayStation says this can help when a game or add-on cannot be found. The menu paths are:

- PS5: Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- PS4: Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses.
After restoring licenses, check the game’s add-on screen again. This step refreshes the platform’s recognition of the licenses associated with the account; it is different from downloading the add-on files. If the add-on is still missing after the license check, return to the installation and region checks rather than assuming the purchase itself failed. 5. Check game and DLC region compatibility
A valid DLC purchase can still fail with a game from a different region. This is especially important if you use a physical game disc and bought the add-on digitally. Compare the disc’s region with the region of the account and store used to purchase the DLC; do not assume that different regional releases or editions are interchangeable.
Nintendo says that when the game and DLC regions do not match, the DLC will not appear in that version of the game. PlayStation likewise says a game disc must be licensed for the same country or region as the account to use PlayStation Store add-ons. Region is not a substitute for checking ownership: the transaction can be genuine and visible in the account, while the add-on still fails to work with a particular regional version of the base game. If you are using a disc, identify the game version you actually play and compare it with the DLC’s store/account region before spending time reinstalling. This check matters particularly when a disc and add-on were obtained from different countries or regions.
6. Check whether the game has unlocked the content
Ownership and installation do not always mean that DLC is immediately usable. SEGA Support’s DLC Access Troubleshooting, updated February 17, 2026, explains: “Sometimes the DLC content will not be accessible from the beginning.” Some content becomes available only after completing a tutorial or reaching a certain point; other content can be used only in particular parts of a game. Check the game’s instructions or support page for the specific unlock condition rather than treating a progression gate as a failed purchase.
Also consider where the content is meant to appear. Some add-ons are restricted to particular sections or modes, so checking only the opening area or initial menu may not confirm whether it is available. The game’s own instructions or publisher support are the best place to verify the relevant milestone or location; the exact requirement varies by game.

If you use mods or custom files on PC, test the game without them. SEGA advises that modifications may interfere with DLC access. If the add-on is owned and enabled but does not appear, removing that possible source of interference can help isolate the problem.
7. Contact the right support team if the checks fail
If the transaction is recorded but the DLC remains unavailable after the relevant platform checks, ask support to verify the entitlement. Contact the platform or storefront when the issue appears to involve the account, purchase, license, or download. Contact the game publisher when the platform confirms ownership and installation but the game itself does not grant access.
Have the transaction ID or receipt, the account used to buy the DLC, the game title and edition, the platform, and the DLC name ready. Explain which checks you completed: whether the purchase appears in history, whether the store recognizes ownership, whether the add-on is installed or enabled, whether you restored licenses where applicable, and whether the game and DLC regions match. This helps support distinguish an account entitlement issue from a game-side access condition.
PlayStation directs users to support if its add-on troubleshooting does not resolve the issue; Bungie likewise directs players with continued Destiny license problems to the relevant platform support. Why does the store show a price for DLC I already purchased?
First confirm you are signed in to the account that made the purchase. Nintendo says that if a Switch DLC listing shows “Add to Purchase” or a price, the selected Nintendo Account did not purchase that item. Check the correct account’s purchase history and any code-redemption records.

Can DLC be purchased but not installed?
