A loss on every character is different: Blizzard says it may indicate account compromise, so secure the account and follow its hacked-account guidance. Only after those checks should you report a suspected bug in the World of Warcraft Bug Report Forum. Blizzard does not promise that a bug report will restore gold.
Start by defining what changed
Write down the character, realm, approximate time, amount you expected, amount now shown, and what you were doing immediately beforehand. Compare the affected character with your other characters and with any recent screenshots or notes. This simple record prevents a mistaken display reading from becoming an assumed loss and gives you useful detail if you later report a defect.

Blizzard’s Common Problems guidance uses the phrases “Can’t find my gold” and “My character has less gold than it should.” Those descriptions cover several normal account actions as well as genuine software problems. The first diagnostic question is therefore whether the discrepancy is limited to one character or appears everywhere.

Auction House and vendor purchases
Review expensive Auction House purchases and recent vendor transactions. A single high-value purchase can look like an unexplained disappearance if you remember the item but not the price, or if another player with access to the character made the purchase. Match the timestamp and amount against your expected balance rather than relying on a quick visual impression.
Mail to another character or player
Look through sent mail and the mailboxes of your other characters. Gold may have been mailed to another character, a friend, or a guildmate. Include pending or recently delivered mail in your comparison, because the money can be somewhere you do not normally check when playing the affected character.
Guild-bank deposits
Check the guild bank and its recent activity if you have deposited gold for repairs, materials, events, or another member. A guild-bank deposit is a transfer out of the character’s personal balance, not a game error. If you do not have permission to view the relevant log, ask a guild officer to confirm whether a deposit matches the time and amount.

Display problems caused by addons
Blizzard lists an addon as another possible explanation for a character showing less gold than expected. An addon can present stale or misread information even when the underlying account balance is correct. Compare the in-game value with a clean interface: temporarily disable the addon that displays currency, reload the user interface, and check again. The official guidance identifies the possibility but does not prescribe a particular addon or troubleshooting sequence, so treat this as a controlled comparison rather than proof that the addon is at fault.
Understand WoW Token balance rules before calling it a bug
A WoW Token purchase can change which gold is available to the system, and its rules are easy to misread. Blizzard says a Token purchased from the character-select screen can draw on gold held by characters on one realm, including gold in their mailboxes. The system does not recognize gold in a Warband bank. Consequently, the amount you expected to spend or the amount you expected to remain can differ from the amount the Token system can actually see.
These rules are not universal across every configuration. Blizzard’s Token guidance varies by game mode and region, so use the current official Token page for the account, region, and mode involved. Do not treat a difference involving Warband-bank gold as evidence that the game deleted currency; it may simply be outside the Token system’s eligible balance.

- Record whether the discrepancy happened immediately before or after a Token purchase or use.
- List the characters on the relevant realm and the gold each character held.
- Include gold in character mailboxes in that list.
- Exclude Warband-bank gold when estimating what the Token system could recognize.
- Compare your estimate with the rules shown on Blizzard’s current Token page for your region and game mode.
A Token transaction explains an availability difference; it does not by itself establish that a bug occurred.
If every character is affected, treat it as a security incident
Blizzard’s Missing Gold in World of Warcraft guidance states: “If you are missing all the gold in all your characters, your account might have been compromised.” That warning is specifically about an account-wide pattern. Do not dismiss it as an addon display problem simply because one character’s interface also looked wrong at another time.
Immediate account steps
- Stop further trading, mailing, Auction House activity, and Token purchases until you understand the change.
- Follow Blizzard’s hacked-account guidance for securing the account and recovering access.
- Change the account password from a device you trust and secure the email account associated with it.
- Review account access, authenticator or other available security options, and any unfamiliar activity.
- Preserve dates, realms, character names, amounts, and screenshots before making changes that could erase useful context.
The official warning says the account might have been compromised; it is not a finding that compromise definitely occurred. The point is to prioritize security before ordinary interface troubleshooting when the loss spans all characters.

Separate a suspected game bug from a trade scam
The correct next step depends on how the gold left the account. A software malfunction is different from a player persuading you to complete a trade and then failing to deliver what was promised.
When the problem followed a trade
Blizzard’s Trade Scams guidance says: “Customer Support does not restore items or gold in these situations.” The context is trade scams. Blizzard may take action against a reported account when it verifies a scam, but the statement does not promise that the victim’s gold will be returned. Report the suspected scam through the channels Blizzard provides, preserve trade details and messages, and avoid sending more currency to the other party.
When an item, not gold, is missing
Blizzard’s Item Restoration tool is for eligible items that were sold, destroyed, or disenchanted. It is not a general gold-recovery service. Do not submit an item-restoration request as a substitute for reporting a currency discrepancy, and do not infer from item-restoration rules that lost gold is covered.

When the evidence points to a software defect
If your transaction checks, Token review, interface comparison, and security review do not explain the change, classify it as a suspected bug rather than a confirmed one. The available guidance does not establish that a general game bug caused your individual loss.

Blizzard’s Token guidance directs players to the World of Warcraft Bug Report Forum for a potential bug or feedback about how the system should work. A report is a way to document the behavior; Blizzard does not say that filing one guarantees reimbursement.
What to include
- Character name, realm, region, and game mode.
- Approximate date and time, including your time zone if known.
- Gold balance before and after, with the currency amount stated plainly.
- The exact action immediately before the discrepancy: purchase, mail, guild-bank deposit, Token activity, logout, reconnect, or interface reload.
- Whether the issue affects one character, several characters, or all characters.
- Relevant error text, screenshots, video, and whether disabling the suspected addon changed the display.
- Any transaction, mail, guild-bank, or Token details that can be checked.
How to describe the result
Use observable facts and separate them from your theory. For example: “At 19:10 UTC, Character A on Realm X showed 125,000 gold. After depositing 50,000 gold in the guild bank and relogging, the character showed 75,000. Character B was unchanged.” Avoid writing that Blizzard deleted the gold unless you have evidence that rules out the listed transactions and display causes.

Keep the report focused on one reproducible behavior. If the issue began after a Token purchase, explain the realm and storage locations involved, including whether the expected balance was in a Warband bank. If the report concerns a display mismatch, state what the normal interface showed after an addon was disabled.
A practical decision path
- Confirm the discrepancy. Record the before-and-after amounts, character, realm, time, and current interface reading.
- Audit transactions. Check expensive Auction House and vendor purchases, mail to characters or other players, and guild-bank deposits.
- Review Token activity. Apply the current rules for your region and mode; character and mailbox gold on the relevant realm may count, while Warband-bank gold does not.
- Test the display. Compare the balance with the relevant addon disabled and the interface reloaded.
- Escalate account-wide losses. If every character is missing gold, follow Blizzard’s hacked-account guidance immediately.
- Classify the event. Use scam-report guidance for a trade scam, item restoration only for eligible missing items, and the Bug Report Forum for a suspected software problem.
- Report precisely. Include the timeline and evidence, but do not claim that a report guarantees the return of gold.
What not to assume
- A lower number on one character does not prove a bug; Blizzard’s own list includes purchases, transfers, guild-bank deposits, Token activity, and addon display issues.
- Gold that the Token system cannot see is not necessarily deleted; Warband-bank gold is specifically excluded from that system.
- An account-wide loss should not be waved away as a display glitch; Blizzard identifies possible compromise in that pattern.
- A bug report is not a reimbursement request with a guaranteed outcome.
- Trade-scam policy and item-restoration eligibility do not establish a general right to recover gold lost through a software defect.
Bottom line for “Can’t find my gold”
Trace the balance from the character outward: transactions, mail, guild bank, Token rules, and interface display. If all characters are affected, secure the account first. If the evidence still indicates a game defect, document the timeline and post it in the World of Warcraft Bug Report Forum. Blizzard’s published guidance distinguishes investigation and reporting from any promise to restore lost gold, so report accurately and keep your expectations grounded.
