Contact the bank, card issuer, or payment app you used now, using its official app, website, statement, or the number on your card. Tell them what you shared and when, ask whether they can block further use or stop or reverse a payment, and find out how to dispute any unauthorized transaction. Then secure any exposed accounts, save evidence, and report the incident through the appropriate official channel. The right steps depend on the payment method, information disclosed, and where you live.
What to do first if you paid or entered payment details
- Stop using the site. Don’t submit more deposits, identity documents, card details, or additional payments described as taxes, withdrawal fees, or verification charges.
- Contact the provider through a trusted route. For a card, use the number on the card or a contact route in the issuer’s official app or website. For a bank transfer, contact your bank. For a payment app, contact the app provider and, if relevant, the bank or card linked to it. Don’t rely on phone numbers or links sent by the casino or in a suspicious message.
- Explain what happened and ask what can be done. Give the provider the transaction details and the information you entered. Ask whether it recommends locking or replacing a card or account, whether a payment can be stopped or reversed, and how to dispute unauthorized charges. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) advises contacting the company used to send the money promptly; its guidance covers cards, transfers, and payment apps at What To Do if You Were Scammed and Scams.
- Ask for the provider’s specific process and deadlines. Payment protections depend on your location, provider, transaction type, and whether you authorized the payment. There is no single deadline or guaranteed refund that applies to every case. The FTC puts it plainly: “If you paid a scammer, your money might be gone already. But it’s always worth asking the company you used to send the money if there’s a way to get it back.”
Contact the provider even if the payment appears to have gone through. Reporting to a government agency is a separate step and does not itself reverse a transaction.
Secure accounts and information you exposed
If you entered a password
Change it on the casino account if you can access it, and change it on every other account where you reused it. Choose a unique password for each account and turn on two-factor authentication where available. If you can’t sign in or suspect someone has taken over an account, use that service’s official account-recovery process. If you gave the site your Social Security number
Go to IdentityTheft.gov and follow the tailored recovery plan. A Social Security number disclosure calls for action, but it does not by itself establish that identity theft has already happened.

If you shared banking credentials or other identity details
Tell the relevant bank or account provider exactly what you disclosed—such as online banking credentials, government ID, date of birth, or phone number—and ask which security steps apply. The appropriate response depends on the information and account involved.
Save evidence before closing accounts or deleting messages
Keep a clear record so you can describe the incident consistently to your payment provider and reporting agencies. Save:

- The site’s exact web address and domain, plus the account name or ID you used.
- Screenshots of the site, offers, checkout pages, and any claims about licensing or withdrawals.
- Emails, texts, chat messages, and other communications.
- Receipts, transaction records, payment IDs, and reference numbers.
- The dates and times you visited the site, shared information, or sent money.
Write a short chronology of what happened and what you have already done. Preserve the records before deleting messages or closing the account.
Where to report the casino or suspected scam
If you are in the United States
Report scams to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If you disclosed a Social Security number or suspect identity theft, use IdentityTheft.gov. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s scam-contact guidance also points to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov. If you are in Great Britain
You can send information about suspected unlicensed or suspicious gambling to the Gambling Commission through its report a gambling business channel. The Commission says this channel is for information, not complaints about individual transactions; it does not resolve individual complaints or recover money. Contact your payment provider about the payment. If appropriate and available, you can also use the casino’s own complaint process, but don’t treat that as a substitute for the provider or regulator.
If you are elsewhere
Contact the bank, card issuer, or payment service you used and ask about its local protections and dispute deadlines. Report suspected fraud to the relevant local authorities and check with your country’s gambling regulator. Rules and reporting routes vary by jurisdiction.

Check a gambling licence through the regulator
A regulator logo or licence number displayed on a casino site is not proof that the licence is genuine or covers the activity offered. In Great Britain, the Gambling Commission’s remit includes websites trading or advertising to customers there. Its public register lets you check a company and its permitted activities. Reach the register independently rather than following a link supplied by the casino. It is a Great Britain check, not a global licence lookup; other countries and U.S. states have their own regulators and rules.
Watch for recovery scams
After you report a problem, someone may claim they can recover your money for an upfront fee or ask for more personal or payment details. Don’t respond to unsolicited recovery offers, and don’t use contact information embedded in suspicious messages. Verify any institution through a channel you already trust.
