If Pokémon GO shows the message “Your account has been suspended/terminated for violating the Terms of Service,” Niantic treats the account as banned. The route to contest that decision is Niantic’s web form with “Ban Appeal” selected as the issue type. Niantic says very few terminations are overturned, so the appeal is worth filing but should not be treated as a sure fix.
First, confirm which message you are seeing
Niantic’s guidance separates two situations that players often confuse. The first is an enforcement decision, shown by an explicit notice. The second is a technical problem, such as failing to sign in or a map that will not load. Only the first is a ban.

How to submit a Ban Appeal
Use this route only for a Terms of Service suspension or termination. Niantic directs these cases to its web form and the “Ban Appeal” issue type.

- In the issue-type dropdown, select “Ban Appeal.”
- Describe what happened in your own words: the account involved, the notice you received, and the sequence of events as you remember it. Niantic’s published guidance does not list required evidence, so do not claim facts you cannot support.
- Submit the form and wait. Niantic says it investigates the account and responds after a complete investigation. It does not publish a response time, so a quick reply should not be assumed.
Form labels and wording can change. The Help Center showed relative “last updated” labels of about 215 and 220 days for the appeal and fairness pages when they were checked on 8 October 2026, so confirm the current form instructions before you submit.
What an appeal can realistically achieve

That statement is qualitative. Niantic does not publish a percentage or a count of appeals, so there is no official success rate to plan around.
You also should not expect a detailed explanation. Niantic’s Ban Appeal guidance says: “To preserve the integrity of our system, we do not discuss the internal mechanisms which detect illegitimate gameplay.” Niantic does not discuss individual incidents in public, so a reply is unlikely to walk you through what was detected.

How enforcement escalates
Niantic’s Gameplay Fairness Policy describes a graduated process for cheating, but it is not always followed in order:
- First strike: a warning, with the policy describing a notice that lasts approximately seven days.
- Second strike: a suspension of approximately 30 days.
- Third strike: termination.
- Immediate termination: the policy says some misconduct may lead to termination without a prior warning, so a permanent ban does not always follow three steps.
The Ban Appeal guidance adds that violations of the Player Guidelines, the Niantic Terms of Service, or the Live Event Code of Conduct can lead to enforcement that includes a 10-year or permanent ban. Conduct that Niantic lists as violations
Niantic’s examples are not an exhaustive list. The examples it gives across its enforcement pages include:
- Falsifying location, including location spoofing
- Using emulators
- Using modified or unofficial software
- Unauthorized access to Pokémon GO clients or backends using third-party software or add-ons
- Harassment and direct violent threats
- Posting sexualized imagery

Avoid tools that promise to restore a banned account
Niantic’s appeal process is the only official route to contest a ban. Account recovery services, account sellers, spoofing tools, and unofficial clients cannot reverse an enforcement decision, and using them is itself the kind of conduct that the policy prohibits. If your account is banned, a clean appeal through the official form is the only step that does not add risk.
