If your sign-in ID or other account details were changed, you cannot access the linked email, or the recovery process fails, contact PlayStation Support through its Online Assistant. Do not use recovery links or QR codes sent by strangers.
1. Secure the email account linked to PSN
Change the password for the email address associated with your PlayStation account before relying on password-reset messages. If you cannot secure that email account, contact its provider. Someone who controls your inbox may be able to intercept recovery messages or reset other credentials.

2. Choose the recovery route that matches what you can still access
You can access the associated email
- Go directly to PlayStation Account Management.
- Select Trouble Signing In? > Recover Your Account.
- Follow the prompts and use the recovery messages sent to your associated email.
Start from PlayStation’s site rather than a link in an unsolicited email or direct message. Do not scan a QR code from someone claiming they can restore your account.

You use a passkey
If a passkey is set up and you still have another registered device that can authenticate you, use it to sign in and register a new passkey. If you cannot use another registered device, contact PlayStation’s Online Assistant.

Your sign-in details changed or you cannot access the email
Contact PlayStation’s Online Assistant promptly if your sign-in ID, online ID, or password changed without your permission; you cannot access or do not remember the associated email; or you cannot change the sign-in method. These are cases for official support, not for a third party offering recovery.
3. If two-step verification blocks sign-in, use a backup code
If you cannot receive a two-step verification (2SV) code on your phone, use a saved backup code to sign in. PlayStation provides 10 backup codes, and each code works once. Keep unused codes somewhere secure. If you have no usable backup code and cannot access the registered phone, contact PlayStation’s Online Assistant.

4. Check purchases and subscriptions
Once you can access the account—or with help from PlayStation Support—review your PlayStation Store transaction history. Check other PlayStation accounts that use the same payment method as well, and see whether an unfamiliar charge is a recurring subscription. If a charge remains unrecognized, follow PlayStation’s official refund and support guidance; a refund is not guaranteed, and policies can vary by region.
Use PlayStation’s refund and PlayStation Store support information for the current options in your region. Do not assume that cancelling a subscription automatically reverses a payment already made.

5. If a console was stolen
If a console with your account on it was stolen, sign out of PlayStation on all devices and deactivate consoles using the official account tools. Consider removing payment methods from the account. If you cannot change your sign-in credentials or access the account, contact PlayStation Support rather than waiting for the console to reconnect.

- Use a unique password for PSN and secure the linked email account with a separate, strong credential.
- Consider a passkey and keep recovery methods, including any remaining 2SV backup codes, protected.
- Do not share account details. PlayStation Support’s security guidance says: “Never share your account details with anyone else.”
- Ignore unsolicited direct messages, links, or QR-code offers promising account recovery or rewards.
- Review purchase protections. PlayStation’s “Require Password at Checkout” setting is incompatible with accounts that have passkeys set up; choose protections that fit the sign-in method on your account.
