If your World of Warcraft account has been closed for real-money trading (RMT), start at Battle.net’s Account Restrictions page. Check the stated penalty and whether an appeal is available; if it is, submit one through that channel with a concise, factual account of what happened. If someone else may have accessed your account, use Blizzard’s hacked-account recovery process as well as appealing the penalty.
What Blizzard’s RMT notice means
Blizzard’s standard account-closure message says an account was closed because it was involved “either directly or indirectly” in the unauthorized exchange of in-game property for real-world currency. It also says, “The account holder is responsible for all activity on the account.” These are statements of the reason and responsibility described in Blizzard’s notice; they do not establish what happened in any individual player’s case. Read the account-closure wording.
If the notice names RMT, do not assume that it means Blizzard has concluded you personally sold gold or items. The wording includes indirect involvement, but the available notice does not explain what evidence Blizzard relied on in a particular case or how it classifies specific transactions.
Check the restriction and available appeal route
- Sign in to the affected Battle.net account and open the Account Restrictions page. Review the penalty details and check whether an appeal option is available for that restriction.
- Check the email associated with the account, including its spam folder, for Blizzard’s penalty notice and any details it provides.
- If an appeal is offered, use that formal route. Blizzard support guidance says appeals should be sent through the available account-support process; a forum or social-media post is not a substitute for an appeal. See Blizzard’s forum guidance on appeals.
Make one clear, evidence-based appeal
Blizzard does not publish a required checklist of evidence for an RMT appeal. To make your explanation concrete, identify the affected WoW license and penalty, then give a short timeline of relevant activity and account access. Include only records that help clarify the facts; do not send passwords, authentication codes, or other account secrets.

#1 Best Overall
- Describe any gold or item transfers, paid services, or other transactions that may be relevant, with dates where you know them.
- Say who had access to the account, if anyone else did, and describe unusual access you noticed.
- Point to relevant transaction or account-security records you can provide, rather than making broad claims you cannot support.
- Be direct about what you know and what you do not know. Do not misrepresent transactions or account access.
These are practical suggestions for explaining your case, not Blizzard’s official evidence requirements. The sources do not promise that any specific record will change the outcome.
If someone else may have accessed your account
Account compromise is a separate issue from appealing the RMT penalty. If unauthorized access is plausible, follow Blizzard’s hacked-account recovery guidance to secure or recover the account, and explain the suspected compromise in your appeal. Recovery does not replace the appeal: use both routes when both issues apply.

After submitting an appeal
Wait for the support response and follow the status shown for the restriction. Avoid duplicate tickets, repetitive messages, or abusive language. Blizzard says, “Repeated or abusive appeals won’t help your case. Appeals sent after a final review may be ignored.” Its support interaction policy also prohibits spamming Support. Read the appeal guidance and support interaction policy.
If the restriction is marked as finally reviewed or the page no longer offers an appeal, the available guidance does not establish a guaranteed escalation route. Do not rely on a forum post, public complaint, or another ticket to secure a new review.

What an appeal can—and cannot—tell you
The available Blizzard materials do not establish how RMT is detected, what evidence was used in an individual case, how often appeals succeed, how long review takes, or whether a penalty will be reduced. Blizzard’s closure notice also says that further details may not be provided in some cases. An appeal is a way to present relevant facts through the stated process, not a guarantee of reversal or a promise that Blizzard will disclose its evidence.
