If a Fortnite chest will not open, check for a known issue and reset custom controls that assign Sprint and Use to the same input. If loot seems to have disappeared, check Fortnite’s current issue updates and report what happened in-game while the problem is visible. Epic’s support guidance does not describe a chest-specific way to restore missing loot, so recovery is not guaranteed.

Check your interaction binding
Epic says custom controls that put Sprint and Use on the same input can interfere with interactions. Restore the default key binds as a first troubleshooting step: Epic’s guidance covers interaction problems generally, rather than identifying chests as a specific cause. Look for a current known issue
Check Fortnite Status and Epic’s Community Issues forum for current notices. Status information changes, so use the live pages rather than relying on old reports.
If the chest’s loot appears to be missing
Check Fortnite Status and the Community Issues forum for a relevant current notice, then submit an in-game bug report. Epic’s reviewed support guidance does not give chest-specific steps to recover loot or promise reimbursement. Reporting the incident documents the problem, but it does not guarantee that the items will be restored.

How to report the problem in Fortnite
Submit the report while the problem is visible if possible. Epic’s report tool attaches a screenshot, but it does not accept video evidence. Follow the platform-specific menu path:
- Open the game menu: press Esc on PC, Options on PlayStation, Menu on Xbox, + on Switch, or on mobile tap Menu and then the gear icon.
- Select the three-line menu, then choose Report and Submit a report.
- Choose A bug, select the closest reason (or Other), and submit the report. See Epic’s bug-report instructions.
If the problem continues
Broader troubleshooting can help with persistent technical or visual problems, but Epic does not present these steps as guaranteed fixes for a chest or missing loot. Use the steps appropriate to your platform:
