You can correct an overly advanced class choice. The official v1.0.6 update for Duelist: Idle Expedition removed the restriction on downgrading classes, so you can switch to an available lower-tier class. Open the character’s current class-change interface, choose a lower-tier option that the game currently allows, and read the confirmation screen before accepting.
That announcement confirms the downgrade rule, but it does not document the exact menu path, price, cooldown, progression retention, equipment behavior, or whether every branch can be crossed. Treat the running game’s class screen and confirmation prompt as the authority for those details.

The immediate fix: use a lower-tier class change
If you selected a class that is too advanced for your build, you do not have to remain there permanently. Version 1.0.6 explicitly says: “Removed the restriction on downgrading classes. You can now switch to lower-tier classes.” The change is the relevant answer to a mistaken high-tier selection.

“Lower-tier” is the important limitation. The update establishes that moving down the class hierarchy is allowed; it does not establish unrestricted movement to every class, subclass, or role. The lower-tier destination must still appear as selectable in your current game state.

What to do first
- Load the character whose class you want to correct.
- Open the character’s class or class-change control. The official announcement does not name the button or menu location, so use the label shown by your current build rather than relying on an old guide.
- Review the classes presented as available and identify the lower-tier option you actually want.
- Select that option and read every line in the confirmation panel, including any displayed cost, cooldown, level change, equipment warning, or other consequence.
- Accept only after the prompt matches your intended correction. If the desired class is not offered, do not assume that the update failed; check its requirements and the current tier or branch rules shown in-game.
This procedure describes the decision you need to make, not an undocumented sequence of buttons. Interface labels can change between builds, while the v1.0.6 announcement only verifies that downgrading itself is permitted.
Why the class choice matters in this game
Class selection is part of a large role system rather than a single linear choice. The Steam store listing describes Duelist: Idle Expedition as an idle auto-battler with seven main classes, 21 subclasses, and 91 unique roles. Those figures explain why choosing the wrong tier can feel significant: a mistake may place a character in a different part of a broad progression structure.
The counts do not tell you that every role is available to every character at every moment. They are the scope of the game’s advertised class system. Availability, prerequisites, and the relationship between a main class, subclass, and role must be read from the current class interface.

Tier is not the same as branch
The downgrade announcement refers to tier, not to unrestricted branch switching. A lower-tier choice may be within the same progression line, but the published note does not say whether you can move sideways between branches, return to a previous subclass, or jump to an unrelated role. Do not treat “downgrading is allowed” as proof that all 91 roles are interchangeable.
Use the current game to check eligibility
Older instructions may no longer describe what you can unlock. Earlier official version 1.0.3 patch notes said that class unlock requirements were reduced. Because requirements have changed across updates, an old level, currency, or prerequisite listed elsewhere may be obsolete.

When you open the class interface, rely on the requirement text and status indicators shown by your installed version. A class can be part of the game’s advertised role count yet remain unavailable to your character. Conversely, a class that was previously difficult to unlock may now be eligible because its requirement was reduced.
Check these fields on the class screen
- Tier: confirm that the destination is actually lower than your current class.
- Eligibility: look for the current requirement, unlock state, or reason an option is unavailable.
- Branch relationship: determine whether the destination belongs to the same progression line or a different branch.
- Confirmation details: note any cost, timer, reset, or warning before committing.
These checks are more reliable than screenshots or text written for an earlier version, because the developers have already changed class requirements once.

The official Steam Community update is narrow. It confirms that a restriction on downgrading classes was removed and that switching to lower-tier classes is now possible. It does not publish a complete respec system or a universal class-change policy.

A safe decision process before you confirm
1. Identify the problem with the current class
Write down why the class feels wrong: an unwanted tier, a role that does not suit your planned build, an unavailable prerequisite, or a mistaken click. This prevents a second blind choice. If the issue is only that the class is unfamiliar, inspect its displayed role information before spending anything.

2. Compare only options the game actually offers
Do not build a plan around a class that is absent, locked, or shown only as part of the overall role count. The practical comparison is between keeping the current class and selecting one of the lower-tier destinations currently presented by the interface.
3. Read the confirmation screen slowly
Look for one-time charges, recurring costs, timers, reset language, or warnings about progression and gear. The public v1.0.6 text does not specify any of these, so the prompt is the decisive source for your character.
4. Record your present state
Before confirming, note the current class, visible level or progress, equipped items, and any resources that the game displays. This is not a claim that a reset will occur; it gives you a reference if the game changes something and you need to understand the result.
5. Confirm the lower-tier destination
Accept the change only when the destination, cost, and warnings are clear. If the game offers a final confirmation, use it to check the tier one more time rather than assuming the highlighted option is the intended one.
If the lower-tier class is not selectable
An unavailable option does not contradict the v1.0.6 downgrade change. The update removes the general restriction on downgrading, but it does not promise that every lower-tier class is unlocked for every character.

- Read the displayed requirement instead of relying on an older guide.
- Check whether the option is genuinely lower tier or belongs to a branch your character cannot currently enter.
- Make sure you are editing the intended character and not viewing a preview or locked role list.
- Restart or update the game only if the game itself indicates that a new version is required; do not assume a reinstall will alter class eligibility.
- If the interface gives no explanation, leave the class unchanged until an official update or an in-game message clarifies the rule.
The version 1.0.3 note about reduced unlock requirements is a reminder that eligibility can change. It is not a complete list of today’s requirements.
Should you downgrade or keep the current class?
Downgrading is useful when the current tier is clearly incompatible with your plan and a suitable lower-tier destination is available. Keeping the class is safer when the game does not show the consequence of changing, when the desired destination is locked, or when the problem is uncertainty rather than a confirmed mismatch.

Those pages establish the update history and the advertised size of the role system. They do not replace the current class screen for character-specific eligibility or the consequences of a particular switch.
Common mistakes to avoid
Assuming every class is interchangeable
Lower-tier switching is verified; unrestricted movement among all classes and branches is not. Choose only from destinations the game marks as available.
Using a pre-1.0.6 guide
Advice that says downgrading is impossible is outdated for a game running version 1.0.6 or later. Conversely, an older guide may also list unlock requirements that changed in version 1.0.3.

The public patch note does not state whether costs, cooldowns, progress, or equipment are affected. A confirmation panel may contain the only character-specific explanation, so read it before accepting.
Expecting a documented button path
The official announcement does not name the exact control used to change class. Follow the labels in your current build instead of assuming a menu location from another player’s screenshot.
Bottom line for a mistaken class pick
Open the character’s current class interface and look for a lower-tier option. Version 1.0.6 removed the restriction that previously blocked downgrading, so a lower-tier correction is now supported. Eligibility, branch access, cost, cooldown, progression, and equipment effects remain character- and version-dependent details that the game must show you before you confirm.
