Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIf your PS5 DualSense controller won’t turn on, connect it to the powered-on console with a USB cable that supports charging and data, then press the PS button. If it still appears dead, check the cable and port, confirm charging, reset the controller, and reconnect it before seeking service. These steps are for the DualSense; other controller models may use different instructions.
1. Connect the controller to the PS5 with USB
- Turn on the PS5.
- Connect the DualSense to the console with its included USB cable.
- Press the PS button on the controller.
When the connection and pairing sequence works, Sony’s DualSense Wireless Controller instruction manual says, “The controller powers on. After the light bar blinks, the player indicator lights up.” If you do not see this response, continue with the cable and charging checks.
2. Check the cable and USB port
A cable can fit the controller but still be unsuitable for troubleshooting. Use the included cable first; if necessary, try another PS5 USB port and then another cable that supports both charging and data transfer. Sony describes compatible cables as “charge and sync” or “charging and data.” A charge-only cable cannot perform the wired connection steps here, and some USB chargers may not charge the controller.
If you use a different cable, verify that it supports data as well as charging. Do not conclude that it is suitable just because its connector fits.

- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
3. Let it charge and check the battery status
The DualSense can charge while the PS5 is on or in rest mode. When the controller can connect, open the Control Center and select Accessories to view its battery level. While it charges, the battery icon animates and displays a lightning symbol.
Enable USB power during rest mode
If you are charging in rest mode and the controller does not charge, check the console’s USB power setting:

4. Reset the controller and reconnect it
- Turn off the PS5.
- Find the small reset button on the back of the controller and press it with a pin or similar tool.
- Connect the controller to the PS5 with a USB cable that supports charging and data.
- Press the PS button.
Sony says this reset does not reconfigure the controller or affect its pairing settings.

If the controller still will not turn on or connect after trying a suitable cable and USB port, charging it, and resetting it, Sony directs users to PlayStation Repairs. These symptoms alone do not identify whether the cause is the battery, USB port, or another component; service can diagnose the controller. Repair costs and warranty eligibility are not established by the troubleshooting instructions.
