What to Know About DOOM’s Live Concert Music and Performances at RADAR Festival 2027

Mick Gordon is bringing a full live presentation of the DOOM score to RADAR Festival in Sheffield, UK, from 30 July to 1 August 2027. RADAR describes it as a world-first combination of Gordon, his custom DOOM Machine, a full live band and an orchestra. That is not the first time DOOM music has been played live: Gordon performed a shorter medley at The Game Awards on 1 December 2016. The important distinction is scope—the 2027 booking is announced as a full-score, full-ensemble concert, while the setlist, running time and exact festival slot have not been published.

What is the announced DOOM live concert?

RADAR Festival has announced composer Mick Gordon for its 2027 event at Magna in Sheffield. The festival bills the appearance as a world-first live DOOM score performance built around four elements: Gordon himself, his customized DOOM Machine, a full live band and an orchestra.

That combination is intended to present the music as a concert rather than as background playback or a conventional DJ appearance. RADAR has specifically said the show is neither a DJ set nor a tribute act: it is “the actual composer” performing “the actual score.” In practical terms, the announcement points to an expanded, amplified version of the sound associated with DOOM (2016), with electronic processing, rock instrumentation and orchestral forces sharing the stage.

RADAR calls the production a world-first, but that phrase needs context. DOOM music has been performed live before. The new claim concerns the announced full-score and full-ensemble format, not the first time any DOOM composition has appeared in a live performance.

When and where to see Mick Gordon’s DOOM performance

Festival and venue

  • Event: RADAR Festival 2027
  • Location: Magna, Magna Way, Sheffield, S60 1FD, UK
  • Festival dates: 30 July–1 August 2027
  • Tickets: RADAR says tickets are on sale; current prices, inventory and terms can change, so check the festival’s official ticket page before buying.

The official festival date banner and contemporaneous event reporting agree on the 30 July–1 August weekend. An extracted version of a RADAR page contains inconsistent weekday/date labels, however. Treat the date range above as the published festival window and verify the live schedule directly with RADAR before booking travel.

What has not been announced

The available announcements do not provide an individual performance day or time within the three-day festival, a setlist, a running time, or confirmation that the show will be recorded or streamed. They also do not publish a complete list of musicians, orchestral personnel or production credits.

  • Do not assume Gordon plays on all three days.
  • Do not assume every track from DOOM (2016) will be included.
  • Do not plan around a particular show length or a livestream unless RADAR later confirms it.

Those omissions are normal for a festival announcement, but they matter if you are arranging transport, accommodation or a single-day ticket. Recheck RADAR’s schedule and ticket conditions as the event approaches.

Why the “first live performance” wording is easy to misunderstand

The Game Awards medley in 2016

On 1 December 2016, Gordon performed a DOOM soundtrack medley at The Game Awards. Matt Halpern of Periphery and Sascha Dikiciyan joined him. Gordon’s official crowd-cam description and the verified Game Awards video document that appearance.

It was a live excerpt in an awards-show setting, not a complete concert treatment of the score. The performance is important because it establishes that DOOM music already had a documented live outing years before RADAR’s announcement.

What RADAR’s “world-first” means here

The 2027 booking is presented as the first full live presentation: a larger concert-format production involving a complete band, orchestra and Gordon’s DOOM Machine. The defensible reading is therefore “first full-score/full-ensemble presentation,” rather than “first DOOM song ever performed onstage.”

Feature The Game Awards, 1 December 2016 RADAR Festival, 30 July–1 August 2027
Scope Documented DOOM soundtrack medley Announced full live score presentation; exact selection not published
People named in the announcement Mick Gordon, Matt Halpern and Sascha Dikiciyan Mick Gordon, plus a full live band and orchestra; complete personnel list not stated
Production setting One awards-show performance Festival concert built around Gordon’s DOOM Machine, band and orchestra
Setlist and duration Medley format; a complete running time is not established here Not announced

This distinction lets you appreciate both events without treating the promotional “first” as a contradiction of the 2016 footage.

What Gordon’s DOOM Machine contributes

DOOM’s music is identified with heavily processed guitars, dense low end, abrasive digital textures and abrupt shifts in intensity. Gordon did not create that sound by simply recording a conventional metal band. In a GameSpot interview, he described his role as that of “a musical archeologist,” excavating and recombining sounds to serve the game’s combat and atmosphere.

GameSpot also reported that Gordon built a custom analog effects and audio-routing rig for the DOOM soundtracks. The rig is relevant to the live announcement because it helps explain why the DOOM Machine is part of the billed performance rather than a decorative name. It is a customized system for shaping and routing sound in real time.

The published event descriptions do not specify every pedal, synthesizer, microphone, instrument, stage cue or signal path that will be used at Magna. It would be inaccurate to turn the general description of an analog effects and routing rig into a detailed equipment list. What is established is the role: Gordon’s custom hardware and processing are expected to sit alongside acoustic and electric players and orchestral forces.

Why this is different from a standard game-music orchestra show

  • Composer-led: Gordon is the named performer, not only the writer whose score is replayed by others.
  • Hybrid instrumentation: The announcement combines a full band, orchestra and custom electronic processing.
  • Sound design as performance: The DOOM Machine implies active manipulation of effects and routing, not just playback of finished stems.
  • Amplified impact: RADAR’s own description emphasizes riffs played loudly in a room capable of handling the music’s intensity.

These points describe the announced format, not a promise about a particular arrangement or visual cue. The final balance between band, orchestra and electronics will only be clear when RADAR or Gordon publishes production details or the show takes place.

How the concert connects to DOOM (2016)

Bethesda’s behind-the-music material identifies Gordon’s creative role on DOOM (2016) and points readers toward the original game soundtrack. Gordon’s official DOOM page also provides game and composer context with an embedded music player. Those references are useful preparation for the concert because they let you revisit the source material rather than relying on an assumed setlist.

The score was designed to reinforce the game’s speed, violence and industrial atmosphere. Its identity comes from the interaction of riffs, electronic treatments, rhythmic repetition and sudden textural changes. A full band-and-orchestra performance can expose different layers of that writing, but no official arrangement notes have been released for RADAR.

Planning a trip to RADAR Festival 2027

Before purchasing

  1. Confirm the festival dates as 30 July–1 August 2027 on RADAR’s current event page.
  2. Check whether the schedule assigns Gordon’s performance to a specific day and time. No such slot is confirmed in the announcement.
  3. Review the ticket type, entry rules, refund terms and any age or access requirements shown at the time of purchase.
  4. Use Magna’s published address—Magna Way, Sheffield, S60 1FD—to plan accommodation and local transport.
  5. Recheck the schedule shortly before departure, because festival timetables can change and the extracted RADAR page has shown inconsistent weekday labels.

At the festival

  • Arrive with enough time for festival entry and movement between stages; the announcements do not state how long the DOOM production will run.
  • Do not expect a published setlist at the gate unless RADAR releases one.
  • Follow venue rules on cameras, bags, hearing protection and recording. No official recording or streaming plan has been announced.
  • If the performance is your main reason for attending, confirm the day-specific schedule rather than relying only on the weekend dates.

Ticket availability and pricing are changeable. RADAR’s statement that tickets are on sale is the current status; it does not guarantee a particular price tier or inventory when you are ready to buy.

What listeners can reasonably expect—and what they cannot

Reasonable expectations from the announcement

  • Mick Gordon will be a performing participant, not merely a credited composer.
  • The production will include his DOOM Machine, a full live band and an orchestra.
  • The show is intended as a substantial concert presentation of DOOM music, not a short DJ appearance or tribute performance.
  • The sound will likely draw on the aggressive, heavily processed character associated with Gordon’s DOOM work.

Claims that remain unsupported

  • A complete track-by-track setlist.
  • A guaranteed inclusion of every major DOOM (2016) theme.
  • The exact number of musicians or orchestra members.
  • The show’s duration, encore plans or stage design.
  • A recording, livestream, physical soundtrack release or post-event video.

Keeping those boundaries clear prevents the 2027 concert from being described as something more specific than RADAR has actually announced.

Why this performance matters for DOOM music

The 2016 medley proved that DOOM’s score could work in a live setting. RADAR’s booking proposes a different scale: the composer, a rock-oriented ensemble, orchestral players and custom sound processing in one production. That makes the event notable even before a setlist exists, because the format treats the score as a concert work rather than a collection of game cues.

For listeners, the most useful takeaway is simple: if you want to see Mick Gordon perform DOOM music live, RADAR Festival 2027 is the announced opportunity, at Magna in Sheffield during the 30 July–1 August festival weekend. Verify the day, time and ticket terms when RADAR publishes them, and treat every detail beyond the announced band, orchestra and DOOM Machine as unconfirmed.
