For a standard PS4, look for a monitor with an HDMI input and a native 1080p panel. For PS4 Pro, consider a 4K/60Hz display if you want to use the console’s 4K output, and check HDR10 and HDCP compatibility if those features matter. Whichever console you own, plan how you’ll hear game audio: monitor speakers and headphone outputs vary.
What monitor should I get for PS4?
Start with your console model. PlayStation lists the standard PS4’s HDMI video output as 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. A 4K monitor can accept and scale a lower-resolution signal, but that does not make standard PS4 games render natively at 4K. See PlayStation’s PS4 FAQ.
- Standard PS4: An HDMI monitor with a native 1080p panel is a straightforward match.
- PS4 Pro: A 4K screen can make use of the Pro’s additional output capabilities. Check for 4K/60Hz support rather than relying on a “4K” label alone.
- Either model: Confirm the monitor has the connections and audio options you need, and compare input lag and response time using independent, model-specific measurements.
Does PS4 support 4K?
Only PS4 Pro supports 4K output, according to PlayStation. Selected Pro games can output native 2160p; other games may use enhanced upscaling toward 4K. The standard PS4’s listed output modes end at 1080p. For details, see PlayStation’s PS4 Pro 4K and HDR setup guidance and its PS4 technical specifications.
Check the display’s HDMI and 4K refresh support
For PS4 Pro 4K, PlayStation recommends a display compatible with 4K/60Hz. If the display does not support that capability, the console may scale output down to 2K/60Hz. PlayStation uses “2K/60Hz” in its guidance; check the monitor documentation rather than assuming that term corresponds to a particular marketed resolution.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check every device between the console and display, too. An AV receiver or other intermediary can affect which signal reaches the monitor. For a simpler setup, connect the PS4 Pro directly to the display, especially when troubleshooting 4K or HDR.
Know what HDR support requires
PlayStation says all PS4 consoles support HDR video output for gameplay and video streaming. Its setup guidance calls for an HDR10-compatible 2K or 4K display, a Premium HDMI cable, HDR-enabled content, and automatic HDR and Deep Color settings. HDR support on the console alone does not guarantee that a particular monitor, input, cable, and content combination will display HDR correctly. Follow the official PS4 HDR setup instructions.

Check HDCP if you want PS4 Pro 4K
For PS4 Pro 4K games or streaming, PlayStation warns that the display chain needs HDCP 2.2. This can include the monitor’s selected HDMI input and any receiver or other device in between. PlayStation describes using HDCP 1.4 only as a workaround, but warns that it can limit output to 1080p. Check the specifications and settings for each device in the chain before buying or troubleshooting.

HDMI carries audio, but monitor audio features differ by model. Check whether the monitor has built-in speakers, a headphone output, or neither; if it lacks the option you want, plan to use separate speakers or a headset. PlayStation says HDMI-connected audio is optimized for the connected device. Also note that the CUH-2000 series PS4 does not have an optical digital output. See PlayStation’s PS4 audio output guidance.
