Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For a 4K/2160p, 60 fps YouTube Live stream, plan for about 42 Mbps of sustained upload capacity when encoding with AV1 or H.265 (HEVC), or about 60 Mbps with H.264. Those are practical targets that add YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom to its recommended video bitrates; they are not official minimum internet-plan speeds. Test your actual upload connection and encoder before going live.
How the upload-speed targets are calculated
YouTube’s current live-encoder guidance lists different recommended video bitrates for 2160p at 60 fps depending on the codec. Its separate network guidance recommends leaving 20% room above the total bitrate being streamed. Multiplying the recommended video bitrate by 1.2 gives the planning targets below. The total stream can also include audio and other components, so treat these as practical targets, not guarantees that every connection will be stable.
| Live codec | YouTube-recommended video bitrate at 2160p/60 | Practical sustained upload target with 20% room |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 35 Mbps | About 42 Mbps |
| H.264 | 50 Mbps | About 60 Mbps |
YouTube’s table also lists minimum encoder bitrate settings of 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265 and 14 Mbps for H.264 at this resolution and frame rate. These are encoder-setting minimums, not recommended internet speeds, and do not guarantee the picture quality you want. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
Check upload speed, not the advertised download speed
The speed that matters is outbound upload capacity: data traveling from your streaming setup to YouTube. A broadband plan may have much faster download than upload, so its headline download figure does not answer whether it can carry a 4K live stream. YouTube recommends checking outbound bandwidth with a speed test and notes that other people using the same network can reduce the capacity available to your stream. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Look specifically at the test’s upload result.
- Run the test on the network and device you intend to use for streaming.
- Check at a busy time as well as when the network is quiet; a best-case result may not reflect the capacity available during a crowded household or event.
- Compare the result with the target for your encoder, leaving room for audio and other stream traffic rather than treating the target as a razor-thin threshold.
Test the whole stream before an event
A speed test is only a snapshot of network capacity. YouTube recommends a test stream that includes audio and movement similar to what you plan to broadcast, followed by monitoring stream health and any messages. Use a private, unlisted, or otherwise controlled test where appropriate, and verify that the configured resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate behave as expected. YouTube’s guidance says: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”
- Set the encoder to 2160p and 60 fps, then choose the codec and recommended video bitrate you intend to use.
- Run a controlled test using representative gameplay or other moving content, with the planned audio.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health information and encoder messages while the test is running; do not rely on a speed-test result alone.
- If the stream reports problems, reduce the bitrate or resolution and test again, or address network contention and reliability before the real broadcast.
Connection reliability and 4K latency
Meeting a bitrate target does not make a connection immune to interruptions. Shared network use can reduce available upload bandwidth, while a disruption can break the stream. A wired Ethernet connection may be useful when your equipment supports it and Wi-Fi reliability is the problem; it does not increase the upload capacity supplied by your internet service. A cable is optional, not a substitute for adequate sustained upload.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
There is also a 4K-specific latency trade-off: YouTube says the low-latency optimization option is unavailable for 2160p streams, which use normal latency. If low delay is more important than 4K resolution, consider whether a lower resolution better suits the event.
Do not confuse live bitrate with video-upload bitrate
YouTube publishes separate recommendations for prerecorded video uploads. For 2160p SDR files at high frame rates, its upload-encoding guidance lists 53–68 Mbps video bitrate. That figure applies to uploading a video file, not to the live-ingest settings for a 4K/60 broadcast. For live streaming, use the codec-specific live recommendations above. See YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your stream is prerecorded video that needs to stay live on YouTube, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative to leaving a computer running an encoder. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the loop running, so nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and streams to YouTube.
