The SOMA ARG ended by revealing a teaser for ONTOS, Frictional Games’ next project. Its Hotel Samsara website and investor pitch were fictional parts of the campaign—not evidence of a real hotel or investment opportunity.
What was the Hotel Samsara teaser at the end of the SOMA ARG?
The campaign’s final puzzle route led to a video titled Frictional_Next_Project.mp4, identified by the investigation as the first teaser for ONTOS. Hotel Samsara was the fictional setting and hook for the puzzle trail; it was not a real hotel investors could book or fund. The detailed puzzle chronology is documented by the Game Detectives Wiki investigation.

How did the SOMA ARG lead to Hotel Samsara?
The trail began inside SOMA, rather than with a separate ARG game. An update dated September 22, 2025 added a corrupted email to protagonist Simon’s computer. Its symbol substitutions concealed the address hotelsamsara.com, sending players to the campaign site. The Hotel Samsara site presented an investment opportunity from “LuxuryNext,” with testimonials and an email signup as elements of its fictional pitch.
The investigation traces the trail onward through campaign websites and accounts, culminating in a final glyph-and-password sequence. Its account is based on linked archived campaign material and source artifacts; the Hotel Samsara page itself is campaign material, not independent reporting about a real business.

When did the ARG end, and what came next?
The investigation records the ARG as completed on September 30, 2025, when the final solution exposed the teaser video. Frictional Games later formally introduced ONTOS. In an Xbox Wire announcement published December 11, 2025, creative director Thomas Grip described the game as “a spiritual successor of sorts” to SOMA, adding: “So, in some ways, this game takes the ideas we had in Soma and pushes them way, way further, acting as a spiritual successor of sorts.” Grip also described Aditi’s journey to Samsara, a repurposed moon hotel. That makes the ARG’s fictional hotel a bridge to the setting of a real announced game, not proof the hotel exists outside the fiction. Read Grip’s announcement on Xbox Wire.

Release timing changed between the announcement and the store listing. Xbox Wire’s December 2025 announcement described a 2026 plan; Steam listed ONTOS as planned for 2027 and not yet available when checked on October 8, 2026. The Steam listing is the more current of those two references for present release status, but store dates can change. Check the ONTOS Steam listing.
